hiya everyone.. i've got a 54 TD4 (an i do luv er) which has 16" alloys and mitchillins..an i've been given a set of 15" steel wheels..(there off an older freelander)..i'd thought of fitting them with somesort of off road tyre..but before i do..will they fit..?

an if they do..any ideas about the model of tyre i might get..most use will be ice / snow an mud..

15" steels will fit as long as you have the wheelnuts for the steel wheels, as for off road tyres, Colway C-Trax 195 R15's.

Just check they fit first-I am led to believe that post 2001 cars need different wheels to the pre 2001s.

I had to search for some 16"s for my 2005, and only the later wheels fitted correctly. Having said all that, I was after 16" alloys, not steels.

Plus, there are loads of 16" AT/MT tyres around, so you could use your current wheels.

Post 2001 need different Alloys to the pre 2001, the steels are the same I believe, I think you just need the wheelnuts from the steels to fit them, as I think they are different to the alloy ones.

None of the 16" M/Ts (that I have seen) are the right size (215 65s) for the freelander. You can only get the proper sized M/Ts for the steels. Yes you can get A/Ts for the 16" wheels, Goodyear Wrangler ATRs, they where fitted to the G4 Challenge/Camel Trophy vehicles:Tyre AUTO GOODYEAR WRANGLER ATR - 215/65 -16 98 T OWL: sale of tyres AUTO GOODYEAR on Pneus Online . But if he has a spare set off steels and he wants off road tyres i.e. M/T, not A/T ideally, he wants the Colways. Depends what he's doing with them, if its for greenlaning then he wants A/Ts but for P+P, M/Ts.

The Pirelli Scorpions Ice and Snow are very good tyres for this kind of stuff. I do a lot of driving in the alps during winter and have not had to use chains yet.

thanks for advice.... use will be aimed at road use in ice and deepish snow as well as dragging stuff in muddy fields.

ill see what ebay can find. derryk
