Some dude on here said he couldn't get hold of gaylander rear roof bars,

You could look into doing some standard or butched up ones

If you want to corner an emerging market, there isn't much in the way of cheaper off-road toys for Disco 3's and 4's yet - the obvious stuff being under body protection - paid a fortune just for a sump guard on mine. Swing away rear spare carriers for the D3 are also only available from Australia I believe, so, another good market opportunity there - starting to see a lot more being used off-road.

Detachable towbar for Defender, check out the extreme 4x4 system, it's a great system but very pricy for what it is.

Detachable towbar for Defender designed to fit to a NATO hitch so the ball is standard height, seen a few made by individuals but nothing on the market.

Course you might have to get into type approval for post 98 vehicle towbars, which is no doubt a maze of redtapedom and high expense.

Roll cages that double as a roofrack/tent platform, maybe optional exterior fittings for spare wheels/ladder/jerry cans/spades/waffle boards etc. A kit would be good with all the tubes bent and ends milled so they're easy to weld together by the customer.

External roll cage for defender 90 van, at a better price than on offer now.

I got priced £600 to make one from a place in Halifax and that was fitted but not painted.

There's. few around I have a mib one but it a crap fit wouldn't recomend one

You can get the tow bar with a nato type jaw. Mr kipper had one on the Disco, not sure how good it was mind.

Thanks chaps, I've looked long and hard at them, Jai LR has a good thread on the one he made which looks the business, but I've decided to go with the Extreme 4x4 kit, mount the electrics in the TD5 x-member with a short extension to the detachable drop plate, and leave the NATO hook on for recoveries. I don't know if I want a rear winch, but at least I have an easy option with this system if I do decide to have one, could wire it to my jump-lead socket so it'd be an easy swap.

Hi all

im going to start fabricating off road parts for Land rovers, and before i begin i just wanted to ask what kind of parts people would like to see cheaper, im going to begin with Series parts as i currently have a series 2 then move onto discovery and defender parts.

Items like, winch bumpers front and rear, steering guards, roll cages, underbody protection

and what sort of differences in these modifications that people want to see, for example a winch bumper to fit a series 2, a rear winch bumper for a discovery

Let me know people and i will start designing and manufacturing.

All british built

Not alot of money making bumpers/off road parts anymore. The last year has been terrible Iv started doing more welding on mot fails

AFFORDABLE rear storage for a discovery 1 , maybe storage just to replace rear seats , everything pritty mich already being done so its a case off making better ones or making them cheaper , rear door storage panels for a disco

very true, and the other problem is Ive got £250k + invested in machinery to make professional grade stuff to try and compete with China junk, When you asked to make x you need to make tooling do drawings for laser cutting , different size die for the pipe bender costs anywhere between £600 to £1500 etc etc etc thats why I only make x members now
I make 4x the hourly rate doing sub con engineering

Anything less than a cnc mandrel bender will be to slow and lack reputability to make production or mail order cages.

What machinery do you own?Not trying to put you off , just make sure you have other contracts to keep machinery busy as bolt on stuff wont pay the bills as the market is swamped
