odemeter on my series 3 stopped working today. Just as it tried to turn from 9999 to 10000 it stopped counting.

The unit was one I bought new a couple of years ago to replace the original unit which broke - the speedo stopped working.

Any ideas? Can it be repaired?

its usually the cable that breaks on these things and generally at the g/box end. whip yer dash out disconnect the cable from the head and see if it turns while driving.

Hi Steamcoaster,

I like you think it is suspitious it stopped at such a significant milage mark... There is a company in Wales that will repair and refirbish old odometers called Gower Oaks. They used to be at 01639 732299 and had a web site. I can't find the website just now though, they were taken over by Speedy Cables on 01639 732213 and I'm not sure what the situation is now. I sent one to them a while back. The cables do go as the previous reply says, and another trick is they sometimes jump out in the gearbox cog, or the back of the odometer itself. I have "features" on mine due to the cable going the wrong way round the exhaust pipe, cos the core doesn't rotate entirely freely due to the tighter turn.

My money is on the odometer head fault though.

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks chaps.

Its not the cable. Its fine as the mph pointer is giving a reading. I have had a problem with the cable in the past and the current unit is fairly new.

It is odd that the mileage display stopped at such a point. I'm a bit annoyed as I paid £80 for this unit from Britpart not that long ago.

Its coming out next week to be inspected.
