Hi

I've had my P38 for a while but I'm new here, having been finally defeated by a couple of problems. I'll post the second problem on another thread.

The book symbol comes up after about 5mins on every journey. I've tried to get the codes read but Mr Land Rover couldn't get a communication with the Hevac.

What I have is a fully functioning blower, hot and cold outputs when required to the screen, vents or footwells as instructed, heated seats, and a bit of a heated screen (not too worried about that).

What I don't have is a heated rear window or any air con, but the biggest problem is that the unit randomly cuts out. As I've not had another, is it right that the display illuminates when you turn on the ignition but then goes blank after a few seconds, then comes back after the engine is switched on? The backlighting stays on all the time, it's the digits and operation that go. The only pattern I can find is that it cuts out when the erratic idle drops very low (the other problem).

I've looked at the wiring and there is one wire off with a terminal on it which I'm suspicious about, black wire into the right hand (?aircon) plug. I've downloaded RAVE but can only open some of it and have given up trying to find a P38 Hevac wiring diagram.

Really need to get this sorted before we have some bad weather.

Thanks

Anthony

You have got a faulty HEVAC unit. The display should stay on all of the time. The cheque book symbol will come on for almost any reason within the unit; ar drection, temperature setting either side, air con. Get your fault codes read and a start towards the answer will be there. It sounds like you might need an alternative with a fault reader. Unable to communicate isn't an answer, it should be the start of an investigation.

What model, engine & year?

Hi & thanks

It's a 96 4.0 SE. I've found the website and it's got me out of trouble a couple of times already.
