Yep. they got 24 splines.

ok. i have a choice of another two cars to get diffs off. had a check and both have 4 bolt flanges.

one is an old v8 range rover 1982 ish. the other is a 200 disco H REG?

WHICH IS BEST

hard to say you dont know if either have been rebuilt and like new or poor unlike and 3 and 10 year old descision has rr got filler plug in diff housing or dont you need it

ahrgh!!.

ok the rangie (my 1st choice) has very thick half shafts compared to mine. i didnt go any further assuming it would be a diferent diif?

The Disco.. both half shafts have gone so i cant count the splines.. the flange is the same square/clover shape as the landy so at least the flnage looks good.

is there any other way to tell if this would be a 10 spline and the right one?

many thanks again

Given up for now.

after crawling about in a field all day, nettle stings on my bellie, arms & legs all to find
1. a set of 24 spline diffs that wont do.
2. a set of fat axles from a a rangie and eventually..

after dragging the 200tdi off the field and onto the ramp, then removing the diff to find..

It had already been butchered, parts missing and knackered. why anyone would have put it back on i have no idea?

so. the 200 tdi only had one diff that is of use (front).

im assuming front & read diffs are different & go in opposite directions so that would be no use on the rear.

ill keep a lookout for a rear diff, i think if a find one for sale with 10 splines it would match the one on the front of the 200?

shame the rangie stuff doesn't fit, no chance of breaking one of those.

thanks again for all the help.

front and rear diffs are the same ,the dfront ones run on other side of teeth ,sometimes they may be noisier if refitted in other axle if worn but generally ok

ah. that's interesting.. so i can use this one. and then look for another one the same.
i was looking for a pair on the net, but some peoples sell them single.

update: seen an advert for "LAND ROVER, DISCOVERY OR 90/110 10 SPLINE DIFF" 1 off

am i still correct in thinking.. as long as it is a 10 spline, the ratio's will be the same? or should i stick with getting a pair.

cheers again

single is fine ,only series and some specialist def have 4.7 diffs 10 teeth on pinion ,the rest are 3.54 13 teeth on pinion,as said front and rear the same diff ,only when p38 rr came out did lr fir l/h and r/h diffs

Great!
just to double check..

the "LAND ROVER, DISCOVERY OR 90/110 10 SPLINE DIFF" for sale

and the 10 spline dif on this 200 tdi can both go on the same landy and they wont rip it apart?

upto year 92 all vehicles from lr have 3.54 10 spline diffs fitted ,which will fit series as replacement for 4,7 10 spline diff front or rear ,you could use 2 x front or rear, one 90 one disco or rrc

thanks. ill get this one then.

the disco is 1990/91 so should be a safe bet.

all i have to do now is fit em and get a landy halfshaft

ill post photo's eventually to show it all.

Finally got some diffs.
I managed to get a pair of 1972 range rover diffs wit filler plugs. very clean inside.
I did the rear diff today. old diff came off fine, no broken studs and the replacement went without a problem too.
Now driving two wheel drive only until i get time to do the fronts (which do look a darn site more complicated).
The difference is really impressive, The second gear is like a second gear instead of a firt gear now and i dont feel like im in third all the time. i went to abergele on the 60 stretch and for the first managed a respectable 50 mph (according to my navman) without my ears bleeding and the engine didnt sound like it would explode.
very happy with this diff mod.

took pics etc and will do a walk through after the front is done.
