Hello all, my first post so please be gentle with me. lol

Right I've recently bought myself an '02 freelander (TD4 before you say it !) And I'm very pleased on the whole. . . apart from. . .

When I got it the boot window wasn't working which I assumed was a problem with the motor, however after inspection I found that the fuse had gone, nice and simple I thought.

After replacing the fuse the window worked fine, but as soon as I started her up the HDC warning light came on on the dash and the reverse lights came on. I stressed about this for a while untill I thought to remove the boot window fuse. Sure enough, the problem goes away.

I've since tried putting the fuse in when its running, or taking it out while its running, all to no avail. If the car is turned on (or to be precise, when its put in gear to move with the engine on) with the fuse in, the lights come on, and stay on untill the car is stopped.

I have taken it to the local 'lap-top' man, but he is also stumpped. He's emailed landrover and is waiting to hear back but I thought I would ask for the advice of the ones that know. . . you lot

Any advice or ideas on whats wrong ??

HELLO EARTHLING [GENTLE ENUFF] REET worth checking your wiring under the hdc switch [known fault] and other associated parts around that area, like h/brake switch ,inertia switch [tells it to switch on reverse lights] un see how yer git on. . . .:)

Thanks for the suggestions, I will have a poke arround by the handbrake :)

Oh and no tow bar so rules that out, cheers shutty.

sounds like it could be a broken earth connection, or a short to earth. Need to go through the wiring diagram to be sure, but just calling to mind all those older cars (esp. renaults and sierras) which have rear lights doing funny things, almost invariably caused by a bad earth, so the current finds another way home.
