Any recommendations for a code scanner for a Freelander 1 td4 ?

probably want the cheap end but could be persuaded to go mid range if it’s worth it.

Thanks for the link. I can’t make out which variant your are recommending.

is it just a Bluetooth dongle which needs a pc and some separate software from somewhere ?

it's the unit, then it comes with software to run on laptop.
those bluetooth craps won't show much if anything at all

You need a proper reader, as suggested by PRO.
Unfortunately a 2003 TD4 isn't OBD2 compliant, which means a generic OBD2 reader won't read it, or if it does, it'll be very limited.
 
Sorry for being dumb but I don’t see that option of the various choices available on that page.
