To quote the Ringing/Hybrid guide to the letter!

''Modified/rebuilt' is also used as an explanation when people are selling stolen vehicles which have been given a new identity (a practice know as 'ringing'). Take a stolen Defender 300TDi, grind the chassis number off and fit the VIN plates from a tax-exempt Series 2A. Then tell the unsuspecting punter that it is an original 1966 vehicle that has been modified over the years with newer parts. Sounds unbelievable, but people fall for this line, then their new Landie gets taken away by the police and they are left out of pocket.

A 1995? Late 200 tdi 90 on a 1966 tax exempt 2a I'd guess identity.

What i dont get is if it registered in '66 why has it got a P plate, surely it should still be on the original plate?

Then he says about it being registered in '76?!

It sounds to me like hes making up all this as hes going along. :scratching_chin:

"Double central cubby box, a one off not seen this before" basicly hes never seen one like that before in all that he has stolen. What a prick

De-mobbed military vehicles, or even civilian vehicles imported were given plates which showed the date at time of registration, not when the vehicle was manufactured.
Today's methods of registration a different as in if proof of age is present, a dated or age related plate can be issued by DVLA.

And, take a look at the under-the-bonnet picture...... that ain't the engine bay of a 200TDi is it? So, it could be an older truck......
