Hi all,

***NEWBIE ALERT***

Not had a chance to upload a piccie of my rangey yet, and new to the rangey owners experience.

Although I've taken on a couple of tasks with my aging old girl and had success, I'm now looking at one or two jobs which mean I will probably need to 'talk' to her through the OBD system and am looking for advice:

  • she is a '98 with no manual, how do I find out which system she has?
  • where do I find the socket?
  • is it the same socket for the diagnostics and the EAS system?
  • is there anything likely to surprise me with unforeseen problems?
Any help with this would be much apprieciated, all for now.

For all but engine your need test book, hawkeye or nanocom

where do I find the socket? - Under the glovebox
is it the same socket for the diagnostics and the EAS system? Yes
is there anything likely to surprise me with unforeseen problems? Almost certainly!

Socket is on the underside of the glove box near the bulkhead....

P38 petrol model will only be OBDII complient for engine....

Send a PM to Datatek (member on here) he can supply a cable and lead for EAS Diagnostics for around £20...

If you need full diagnostic ability, as Fanatic says above....Nanocom, Hawkeye, Faultmate etc....

Nanocom by far the best for the price!

Thanks chaps, I shall take this all in and progress further when not quite so stuffed with Christmas eats......

Might be a good idea to stick a location in your details. You might be able to borrow* some diagnostics and knowledge.
I've always imagined the struggling newbie who, after tearing every last hair out, then finds he/she lives round the corner from one of the gurus on here.:D

* Numerous cuppas and expensive biscuits are usually involved. In fact cake is classed as a currency on here!!
