A 2005 Freelander 1.8 petrol, there is power through the OBD socket but three different code readers all fail to establish a connection. Any fuses or suggestions to try please? :confused:
 
It happens sometimes :( You could try a Hard Reset!! I.e disconnect to battery for 30 minutes but bear in mind the ecu will loose it's adaptive memory so any stored values will be erased. As will the radio code!!

Also worth remembering early ones had the obd wired wrong as did rovers of the same vintage so not all readers will work
 
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try those suggestions - although being a 2005 it can't be an early version can it?
 
First thing I'd try is squash the connectors a little so they grip the pins in the diagnostic socket! If someone's been probing in there it spreads em and they don't contact;)
 
Are you pairing your device first?

Is it an Android phone you are trying to connect? Every time I connect my HTC I have trouble but then remember you have to pair the device to the phone before the software will find the OBD device.

I have the same trouble as my phone pairs to my stereo first :( I have to remember to turn the stereo off then pair up my Bluetooth reader!! I can access and erase the faults in my 2003 ZS 180 and my Freelander V6!!
I assumed that the OP was using a hard wired OBD2 instead of a Bluetooth one though?
 
Mine works fine on my 2001 (51) plate 1.8i. Biggest drawback is I have to use it around once a week to reset the P0240 code I get repeatedly after installing a new exhaust and lambda sensor. Can't remember the name off hand it is in the glove box at the moment, but it was £25

He doesn't say. I assumed a wired one. But either way it should still work. He's not moaning about bluetooth or wifi or phones so I'd go on the principle that he's got a cheap code reader that just plugs in
 
lol it's hard wired, and it's not cheap ;) I tried two cheap ones too, as I said, none connect - not had chance to try car yet but will let you know how it goes :)
 
Freelanders use a strange language so some scanners like my elm327 fail to read it (2001 v6) so i repeat 3 or 4 times and each time it changes the method it uses then reads ok on 4th or 5th time. Try it and see.
 
Squeezing the connections did the trick, so thanks for the advice - multiple misfires on all cylinders and at low fuel combined with a p0420 probably from the misfire but it's only doing it very occasionally - cleared for now :)

I might have this problem.... what is the right wiring please ? My socket has 3 wires (only)
