It's that time of year and rather stupidly I tried to open the drivers windows whilst frozen and snap went the cable. Had the same problem on a rear windows last year albeit in the summer so I think these cables get wet and corrode - around 7 year life span I reckon.

Last time I just bought a new mechanism from LR at costs of £100 or thereabouts - but i'm just moving house and setting up a business so moneys a bit tight!

Are these worth the effort - FREELANDER FRONT ELECTRIC WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR CABLES on eBay (end time 29-Nov-10 17:09:12 GMT)
 
To be honest I tried using similar cables to fix my window a little while ago and failed. But that was due to the cable popping off the spool part and bending the cable and it didn't wind round like it should. But ye they are worth a go. I just could not figure which way the cable had to wind on lol. So I'll be ordering another one to try again soon lol.

It would seem the plastic spool can be damaged easily and there is a company supplying one with a set of cables for not much money.

If you buy stainless - they'll outlast your transmission or electrics which is the most likely thing to cause scrappage of yer vehicle in the NEXT 7 years :D

Thanks guys, my rear one had damaged the plastic spool which was another reason for replacement. When it warms up I will remove it and have a look - at least the windows stuck in the "up" position.

In the mean time I will ring LR and see what the damage is for a new one!

I think it may be the electrics that gets mine eventually - current faults, intermittent rear number plate light, internal light contacts not working from button, now the door mechanism, not to mention rear door check strap that needs welding. :(
 
I picked up a whole brand new winder mechanism with motor and cables etc for around £50 new off evilbay last year
Wasn't Britpart but someother copy, seems to work - and that was only because one of my spools had failed
 
Well I took a chance on this ebay window motor and works perfectly. Build quality seems fine and should last the car - wish I'd used these when I did the rear ones last yr.

One thing to note on my '02 the electrical connector was different. It comes with a plug with two loose wires in the window kit, so I guess they know this. I had to chop off the existing connector and make a connection using a choc block. Then seal in plastic and taped water tight.

About an hour all in.
