So, looking at the how to at the top of the forum here: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f71/o-ring-change-photos-240362.html

Has anyone else done it this way without removing the dash? While waiting for O-rings to arrive i've already stripped a lot of it out (radio, HEVAC, side trim etc) but I'm still thinking it looks quite difficult to get in with the new o-rings or perhaps I'm missing something obvious?

Any pointers at all? :)
 
It is pretty hard work to get at fiddly more than anything. there is a second option... it involves a bit of cutting and pulling about... when you have it put back together you cant see that you've cut anything but isnt ideal..

Ok... there will be some that dont agree with this method be warned...

Basically if you remove the plastic trims as you have seen in the how to. you will be left with a metal support thing that holds the knee panel on this is often in the way so some folks have cut this and then unbolted it at the bottom to gain a fair amount more room. IF you decide to do this make sure you bolt it back in place and repair it.


think there is a thing on youtub about how to do this.


(you asked i told you i'm not recommending you wave a grinder about in your footwell do so at your own risk ;) )
 
Did some searching on Youtube and found one guy with 3 videos. I think after seeing the video it makes a lot more sense now (the whole job) so a lot less anxious about it!

Just need to get myself some hose clamps to minimise the amount of coolant loss in to the cabin!
 
There's loads of give in heater duct, be a little brutal to get a large spacer in for room to work, found it easy bit fiddly.

Tip - for the things you can't see, take a picture from any angle and blow it up- a small camera or a phone
 
Broken wrists is no good Wammers, two wrists and two elbows on each arm would be helpful though.

Took the dash out to refurb the heater seals/flaps/blend motors when i did mine, so quite an easy job. So have no experience of doing them with dash in place. Is possible, but with hands the size of mine would possibly be a seriously expletive ladened exercise. One thing that must be done on reassembly is to ensure the indexing slots on the pipes are engaged corrctly into the matrix. If not they will leak like a stuck pig.

Yeah, I've heard about that. Also a bit are-twitchy about breaking the plastic if the screw is tightened too much.

All fraught with danger this one!

What you need to think about if you use a different fastener. Allen bolt etc. You can only safely apply around 6 lb ft of torque to the Phillips headed screw without knackering it. Same torque limit applies to Allen bolt or there could be problems.
 
I've finally gotten everything together.. and it's just started ****ing it down. Think it's an omen? lol

Is there a specific antifreeze/coolant brand/make/colour I should be going for? That's the one thing I forgot to purchase!

Mmmmm mmm mm m mmmm , bugger it ,cannot talk with the zip closed. Stick with the colour you have in the motor at the moment. Think there was a post yesterday re. antifreeze :D
 
I'd had a search but couldn't find anything relevant. It has pink/orange in it at the moment but if you use online things to search for coolant it comes back with blue.
