Hi All
I've hunted high and low online for a rough list of sizes for nuts and bolts needed for a rebuild on the body and chassis replacement on a 90 Defender as I cut most off with a grinder due to rust and wanting to change them to stainless steel. Is such a list available online or anyone on here have a rough list.
 
be careful with stainless, not all stainless is the same. some stainless nuts ect wont handle the torque that a steel jobbie will, they have a habit of binding up on the threads, so if you do torque them up, they might be at the correct torque, but all bound up on damaged threads and not actually tight enough. find out what type of stainless they are made of before handing over the money. i was fussy as f##k with the bolts for my zzr, especially anything safety critical.
 
If you have any of the bits left, measure across the flats of them with an open ended spanner, and you will find that: M6 = 10mm, M8 = 13mm, M10 = 17mm and M12 = 19mm

I wouldn't recommend using stainless if you are fastening to steel or any form of cast.

m8 x25mm bolts + nuts washers and repair washers (lots)
m8 x 100mm x 6 cross member
m10 x 30mm + nylocs x 6 for triangle bushes
m10 x 45 + nylocs for a frame brackets x 6


Cant remember where I got this list but its what I noted down on my Chassis rebuild spreadsheet. ( ihavnt done the rebuild yet) but i was going to start with this list and go from there.
 
Thanks to all above :5bhurray:, great help first landy Ive ever owned and have it stripped down to a rolling chassis waiting on new galved chassis to arrive, New suspension and shiney bits order today. Let the fun begin.
 
Im sure i see kits somewhere with all new nuts and bolts for a rebuild, although you will probably find it much cheaper to buy them at your local fastener shop, i have seen the prices on ebay and they are having a laugh
 
For my rebuild I just went to screwfix and bought bags of m8 and m10 bolts, nuts and washers (repair size for M8s) in a few different lengths. Any specific sizes I go and buy from a great little local agricultural engineering company. It worked out pretty cheap and both are only a couple of miles away if I need more, plus I now have lots of nuts and bolts left over for those odd jobs :)
 
Great thread , will keep a eye on it and that link to the rebuild is great . Looking at mine now and thinking should i start my 300Tdi !
