What size is the castellated nut on a 300tdi a frame ball joint? Biggest spanner i have is 25mm which is too small and i can't get a socket or adjustable on due to the shape of the bracket so need to buy a spanner tomorrow :)

just get a big adjustibal or a big rench so then ull have other uses for the spanner after you have finished this paticular job,,

as i said above, i have a big adjustable but it's too big to turn once on the bolt as the axle bracket is in the way. Thanks guys, it looks about a 30 but just wanted to check before i i bought one. :D

You'd never get a socket in there!

Mine looked like a mother to get undone so I just left it and unbolted the top bracket from the frame arms. I only wanted to remove the axle, and the ball seemed ok, so i left it fitted.

The A-frame ball joint nut on the Disco (and RRC) axle needs and opened spanner. You can get a socket on Defender ones.
 
Cheers guys, ordered a 30mm spanner today :D. Is the ball joint easy to replace or am i better off buying one of the ones already fitted? Greasable ball joint planning on fitting an adjustable one with a grease nipple anyway.
