Hi lads,
On a 1998 2.5 dse, in the bay where the two number plate lights live, there is a lot of gunk, mould and just general crap. Do the two clear plastic covers over the lights pop out? I've an NCT coming up and worried they might fail me on that.

Cheers

if you mean the ones in the back tailgate there is a few screws in the black bit of plastic round them undo them and the whole lot comes down and can clean them from inside

Yep, I've no problem taking down the plastic strip which the lights fit into, however, there are two little bays in this with clear plastic and the bulbs shine into. Its these bays which are all gunked up. Anyone know if I can get the two clear plastic stips out to clean the insides?

Edit:

its the two clear plastic strips I want to take out as behind them is now very disgusting.

No...they are all moulded together. Tip that was posted om here was to put the assembly in a dishwasher. Worth a try...you have nothiing to lose. I would think that the MOT tester is just looking for both bulbs working as opposed to how much light is emitted. After all they carry out the MOT usually in daylight.

i used fairy liquid, water and a piece of wire with a cloth wrapped around it, cleaned them up a treat

Yes strictly they are; however I had little difficulty popping them out with a fine blade, scrubbed em out, and then popped em back in with a smear of clear silcone to reseal em. Then you just have to make sure the rear seals are clean and seated properly to stop the crap getting in there again. Worked a treat.
