Okay, my old gal. Lost keys, nightmare to get that sorted, but she ran out if MOT while sorting out the key/immobilzer issue. Northern Ireland, earliest date is November ffs..

Anyway, was watching inline and came across a nice 3 door in the south of england. Way down south. so far down south, its Deliverance terratory..

So...i contacted dealer, paid deposit then fly drive and bring her home. Nearly 500 mile drive to Cainryan Ferry to belfast. (Had a bit of other buisness to do when over.)

All smoth and trouble free. j'lo on the left is the new gal. And on the right is the old gal. Still going to get her on the road, but now have a 4x4 I wanted, running and ready to go.

Old girl lost a few bits....leather gator to gear stick, leather stearing wheel, leather gear knob, rear shelf, and all the stainless steel bolts i got for her rear lights, and if it fecking stops raining, the canvas roof I got for old gal.

Things to do.

1) Check rear drums, shoes and retaining pins. Been that soldier. 40 mile drive home on hand brake at 15 mile an hour. Touching cloth the whole way. 🤪

2) Needs a tow bar, which is good, meaning she wasnt used to tow nor had the guts pulled out of her. One picked up, wire brushed and ready to get bolted up. Has the plugged wiring, so easy plug in.

3) Did the one wheel up test. Was cold, so not certain, will redo when the fecking rain stops. Didn't look healthy, so considerng a recon from Bells and be certain what i have.

4) Bit of a hum, either wheel bearing or carrier dearings on VCU. If changing VCU will be new carriers, so just need to figure out if wheel bearing and which one.

Overall very happy. She has a full dealer sevice history. Sits at 168k miles , 2006, with sidesteps and roof rack. Clutch replaced at 127K.

Was considering reconing my injectors in the old girl, fitting them in j'lo then recon hers and fit in old girl. Means i have little down time, and if i screw up, i can buy a recon set.
Links on here very helpful and a lovely u tube video. Locally a boshe injector specialist can test and do a report for £15 each. That would ensure I know what i need to get replaced in each.

Anyone done this, and if so any does/donts?.

Nice :D

Lets hope the old one doesn't just become a parts car and you can spend some time on it to run both or sell it on to someone else to enjoy.

Normally when someone has a drop top sitting next to their F1 it's a MGF.

Nice change to see summat else.

I was going to get a Scimitar SS1 earlier in the year, but Mrs Grumpy vetoed it...

and we ended up getting the F2 instead

I'm happy with the F2, but I should have ignored the silly woman.

Scimitar? I’m with Mrs Grumpy.

I have 2 celica convertables, a 1994 (red) which is gas converted and needs a wash. and 1997 Silver, A Gen 5 celica Black, A 1996 white Gen 6 JDM SSIII Celica with the red top gen 4 Engine, A Gen 5 25th Aniversary (Greenl , and a 1996 Curren, (JDM celica but with a boot, not hatchback. and weird front headlights, gas converted. Shes got a complete Gen 6 celica lights and front ready to fit. But like the red convertable, they all need work and a final divorce settlement before im going to spend any money on them (or even wash em) But thats a different group altogether.

Is the Curren a Jap import?

Is the Curren a Jap import?
Yes. JDM. Japanese Domestic Model. Never released in UK. Similar was released in America with the proper celica headlights. Curren and Celica are the same car. ENGINE, BODY ETC IDENTICAL. Got a slam plate, front bumper, bonnet and wings of a couple sacrificed celicas i stripped. They bolt staight on. Add a set of Projector Headlights and she will be the only celica with a boot in the UK. But thats another group chat....😁

They were quite popular over here, presumably as Jap imports.

They're getting on a bit now and don't see so many on the road.

There's probably more Jap imports sold over here than new cars.

Good luck with the new car.
If you're handy and don't mind a bit of work then refurbing the VCU yourself is absolutely doable.

They have reached the age thats there is fewer on the roads. Harder to come across for sale or in use. Same as the Freelander. Old school motoring. No or very little electronic sh1t. The JDM didnt even have EGR, where the UK versions had to. The red drop top doesnt even have air bags. And so easy to work around.
