Normal for me is 2x CB permenantly mounted
Why do you have two perm mounted rigs?
Is one CB and the Other Ameteur? or are both CB?

Mine are half reasonable sets; have thier own lith-ion batteries, so they do transmit pretty close to limit most the time, semi-rugedised, rubber cases, and belt clips.....

Unfortunately the clips not 'quite' big enough to clip round the sun visor; well, you COULD open it up that far, at a pinch, but you cant get the thing on or off again to use it!

Clipping it to the door pocket, normally results in it bouncing off and under the pedals :eek:

Clipping it to the seat-belt, is quite good, sort of on the shoulder, near your ear; you can hear it nice and easily, but then you cant press the PTT button very well, and talking away from the mic, VOX just thinks your back-ground noise! Mind, clipped the first half of anything you have to say, anyway!

For some reason, they nearly always end up bouncing around the passenger foot-well, then falling out whenever one of the kids opens the door......

Got to give them credit though, all that kind of abuse they've taken over the years, they still work! Though I've had to strip them and remake the areal or speaker connections a couple of times......

(And resist the temptation to try replacing the areal coil with a UNC socket, and the power transistors to up the transmitter wattage!)

Really ough to make up some kind of bracket on the other side of the CB from a bit of ali green-house bracing I can clip one to like the CB mic......

Both are CB, Sometimes its nice to be able to have private conversations when my partner is similarly equipped, the other reason is I used to work where lead and tail vehicles had 2nd radios so they could communicate without cluttering up the communal channel. Circumstances then were very different but it can still be useful with a very chatty convoy.

Unfortunately that doesnt work for me, Im stone deaf in the right ear, so unless I buy a LHD truck I cant hear a thing:( I found the best option is some wire wrap and hang it from the rear view mirror or to butcher one of those cb mic holders that hang that way, but sometimes I bounce around too much for even the latter. Least the CB mic I can pull it off the floor by the cable when it bounces out the holder.

I too have consdired making up an in-car PMR, I know it totally stuffs the type approval, but with 4 twigs already sticking out the top, a tiny little carphone-type stub isnt going to be noticed

am hopefully getting a series landy soon. and was wondering what stuff i would need for greenlaning, like ropes etc what will i need on the landy like pull points etc. if someone could help me out and also where in essex we can get these items from?

And, signals not great on it at the best of times, but when I do get a signal and here a conversation, they dont seem to here me (or choose not too?). I have it mounted on the bracket it came with, above the rearview mirror. And have a large stinger (ooh err). Any suggestions???

Did you buy it new, or off e-bay or something?

Very easy to blow the transmitter transistors in a CB set if the arial isn't connected, the arial or cabling is damaged, or its REALLY badly set up.

Lot of 2nd hand rigs that have been 'popped' and are beyond ecconomic repair get punted out 2nd hand........ and they work..... but dont transmit!

Also easy to blow your own rig by accident.....

But poor reception as well, first thing that springs to mind is wheres teh twig? And hows it mounted? Have you got it up high and 'clear', so its not masked by bits of the car, and have you got a decent earth / ground plane?

Shouldn't be THAT bad even if its not properly SWR'd, but thats the next thing.
 
SWR'd??? It's above (the stinger) the rearview mirror mounted on a gutter clamp that came with it. I bought it brand new! I have seen a few where the stinger is fixed straight through the roof. this is what I really wanted but was unsure of how to do it.
 
Yes - use an SWR meter to check the setup cb systems are not "plug and play". If it is not set up properly you can blow the output transistors.
If yu dont ubderstand CB systems, take it to someone that does.

It'd depend wher you are ... go into your UserCP and put a location (Town name maybe) so people have a bit of a clue ... ;)
 
As Paul's comment, but you keep sating 'stinger' I presume you have a very short plastic arial? They are notoriousely 'compromised' for range & reception; difficult to 'trim' for SWR too.... have you got the instructions that came with the kit, and have you checked out the 'FAQ / Help sections on the suppliers sites, like Thunder-pole, Knight CB, Communications Eleven, etc? Do a google, chucks up a lot of stuff.
 
I'm in Benfleet, Essex. Stinger as in a very large Antenna (the stupidly big one)

I still have instructions, but it's all another language to me!
