I've got lots of strange feedback through the steering wheel at low speed on full lock... there is a little play in the nearside front bearings... and the half shaft moves in and out... A LOT...

here's a video...

Does anyone know how to proceed? Any comments will be greatly appreciated!!

Kind regards,

Dave

make shore it is not in 4 wheel drive as front drive shafts have uj not constant velocity joints like later models

Thank you!
On closer inspection, It seems to be always in 4wd... just going to check all the couplings from the yellow knob...

Try asking in the defender forum? The series front end is a bit different..
Sorted the 2wd/4wd selection!!

I think I've narrowed the strange feedback down to the railko bush under the swivel housing... anyone know of a good place to get shims? Or just replace it?

The feedback will be from being in 4wd. On hard surfaces this causes the steering wheel to kick a bit. Best not use 4wd unless on a soft slippery surface.
You could try replacing the railko bush and re shimming but a proper strip overhaul is probably needed to check all bearings and replace seals.
