Hi can anyone advise what wheels I've got here? (See pic) They were on my defender when I bought it and I think they're off a discovery but not 100 percent sure.

The tyres on it are 235/70/16 Insa turbo mountain which I understand to be a reasonable tyre...for a remould...

Anyway, I need to identify the wheel so that I can be sure I go and buy the right new tyres before an offroad day next weekend and I don't know whether a normal car garage would know which tyres I could safely go to without trial and error (which might leave me stuck with the old tyres at the weekend).

Again i think the wheel type is critical to my tyre choice because I am planning on buying some BFGs and would like to put some "bigger" tyres than I have currently got (the gap between the top of the current tyres and the wheel arch seems quite big compared to many other landys ive seen (see pic) and i presume a small gap means a bigger tyre which means better offroad capability - alot of assumptions there - probably all wrong!), but I just want a nice straight forward quality tyre replacement which does the business offload (without having to fit spacers or worry about rubbing etc). Actually, for all I know it's already got spacers fitted!

Anyway, to summarise my waffling, help appreciated in:

1) identifying wheel
2) confirming max standard tyre on this wheel when fitted to a defender 90 (1993) without modification.
3) is there any way that I can see if a spacer is fitted without removing wheel? Or does the current tyre mean there would not be a spacer needed?
4) anyone been on a David Mitchell landcraft snowdonia adventure day and recommend it?

Cheers.

Me too. Same Freestyle rims fitted to my Defender 90 with 265/75x16s no problems at all. No spacers necessary and no rubbing on front radius arms once stop bolts were adjusted.

I've got BFG AT 235/85 R16 on mine;););)

Thanks Guys.

Grimmer, That's the size I was hoping to get to. No rubbing or other complications? Did you need any spacers, and if you did, where do I get spacers from? (Do the tyre fitters supply these?).

Yup! judging only from the pictorial evidence, I can now confirm that you have round wheels ... I think!

No spacers, or anything, to be honest not sure about adjusting the stops, as that size tyres was already on her when I got her. Even if you do need to adjust the stops, its an easy job, even for a mechanical numpty like me:D:D:D

This was early on this year when I got my noooooo tyres (we all likes piccys:cool:)

Stop bolts? Google, here I come!

To save ya the trouble. Put ya steering on Full left hand lock. get outta motor look underneath, at axle & Drivers front wheel. you'll see a bolt on inside of swivel housing. Pressed against axle. that's the stop bolt there is a locking nut that also acts as the mudsheild retainer. Can't miss it.

tis the bolt directly below the yellow arrow (not the one the arrow is pointing at)

Nice pic of the Landy!

So I guess I can go for either :

A) 235/85/16 (more height/clearance)

Or

B) 265/75/16 (greater surface contact/traction)

Right?

Actually, those tyres are virtually the same height. So ground clearance will be the same with either tyre.
