Hi all
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area, but urgently need help to find out why my 97 Volvo S70 2.5 10 valve is not starting, before I throw a tantrum and pull my hair out.

Engine turns over, but no spark. I checked both the primary and secondary windings and the modulator, all ok. I then checked the ohms of the camshaft sensor by inserting the red probe to the middle connector (pin 2) and black on pin 1. No reading at all, did have meter set at 2k and 20k just incase with no reading at all. Watched the instructions from internet. Did the same with the crank sensor, still no joy.

I checked the idle air control valve by inserting red probe to the green wire and the black to the battery negative, this gav a reading of 0.00 volts. Checked an injector plug with the red probe to green wire and black probe on battery negative, still reading 0.00 volts. What powers these components? ECU?

Thanks

Billy

Is it on a fob with a light on the dash? Or a chip in the key? If it is in the key then try your spair?

If it was as simple as to pull a fuse to bypass it would be pointless having it.

ignition coil or distributor? Is power going to the plugs?
Or maybe fuel pump?

Coil OK but no spark to the plugs. HT leads ok. Fuel pump seems to be priming. no power to idle air control valve or the injectors. Thinking there may be a fuse somewhere for the ECU

Good find warrior, gonna check that now. I also checked both the cam and crank sensors according to the instructions I found on the internet, I did not get an ohm reading from either suggesting they are fooked, I also checked a spare cam sensor and looks like it's fooked as well.

Tried the spare key, no joy. The alarm warning light is giving a steady flash which means it's probably ok otherwise it would flash very quickly according to the owners manual. Looks like I should replace both the crank and cam sensors, but i'm concerned why there is no power to the injectors and the idle valve

Rather than buying and replacing bits I think that you should get this on some diagnostics. I know nothing about Volvos but, as an engineer, I would be very suspicious of two sensors appearing to have died at the same time, especially as you reckon that you have other, unrelated, issues.

I had a V8 Disco which had this fault and it was that the module had gone on the distributor. It didn't have ECUs though so it was easier to diagnose

Thanks for the replies guy's. Hate auto electrics. Checked relays and now got power to the injectors and air idle control valve. Rechecked the crank sensor with a new multimeter and got a good ohms reading within tolerance, so that's ok. Though the cam sensor is not giving me a reading, neither is the 2nd hand one I bought, so suggests it needs a new cam sensor (I hope) And never to buy used sensors from ebay. Emailed the seller asking for my money back.

Thanks again.
