Hi,
I've a 1987 land rover with the original 19J in and it doesn't seem as gutsy as I expected. Now I know I shouldn't be expecting much with the 19j still in there but it takes forever to build up speed and I often find my self having to change down as soon the road shows a slight incline.
Was towing about 2 tonne yesterday and it really really struggled, even had to put it in low range when pulling away....
It is also using a lot of fuel, like 25l gave me about 70 miles.
It seems to be belting out black smoke periodically, not just on acceleration
I had a few issues with timing after I did the belt but I thought I had sorted it.
So I was wondering if anyone has any ideas?
I am thinking maybe the timing is still slightly out if so, best way to fine tune this?
or i just need to tweak and tune another aspect..?
or, this kind of performance should be expected...
Any advice or thoughts greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Jasper
