One possible suggestion, check to see if the top radiator tank seperator is still in place.

Remove both hoses from top tank insert small torch into the radiator hose stub by the battery and use a mirror on a stick to check if the seperator is still in place.....just a thought.

SORRY............What seperator?

Water did come out of the hose nipple on the left hand side at the top of the rad, so did some air.

The baffle in the centre of the RAD header. They sometimes break off or fall over. Check the rad gets hot all over especially at the bottom:)

Theres a baffel in the centre of the header tank which stop the water flowing in one and out the other, across the top of the header tank.

Put the torch in one side and use a mirror on a stick to look in the other side, you shouldn't be able to see any light (there may be a little bit showing).

Time will tell but I think you will regret not having a classy chassis.

There again, perhaps the L322 was designed for the throw-away society.

landrover sorted problems on the l322 that the p38 incurred and then designed a load more new problems to go with it !!! haha

all fun and games :p
 
Well i just drove the car for an hour after it sat on the drive for a just over a week and there was no overheating problems, so i'll leave it and see what what happens next time.
 
even though the parts came from island 4x4 unless you went for the more expensive oem viscous fan it is a britpart unit which has a record on here of failing i can speak from experience with having 2 fail within minutes of the engine running one even fired fan blades out of the engine bay!
and iam not the only one i bet money that the viscous is weak start from cold roll up some newspaper and see if you can stop it.

You won't need to use newspaper when Cold , with enging off the fan should turn freely with some resistance its ony when the engine is warmed up that you need to check that the fan is stiff to turn so to speak and doing its job properly .

I will check the fan when i run the car next but the fan seems fine i can hear the whistle of air on start up as the fan turns. That didn't happen before.

viscous part of the fan ( maybe dry) or faulty check it warm and cold
cold = free
warm=resistance
make sure fan is dry and clean ( viscous part) ie middle ?
dont forget the viscous louvers will suck air in as it revolves maybe this is your noise !!!

Most fans turn buddah it's to what degree when turning at an at average speed of 3000 revs per minute that matters most
 
It seems that on start up the fan turns fast then slows down, i can hear the fan if i pull way quickly, so it works faster under load.

They always turn fast from cold until the fluid frees up, it should then slow down until the temperature rises. Load has little to do with it.
 
Well what can I say it's looking like your head are the top hosepipes getting hard when hot ? I can't see if you have done pump
Rad and t/ stat v fan it's unlikely to be faulty parts I can only assume its your head.
