Hello members .
I am new to this forum, but not to Forums in general, so appreciate that the correct etiquette is to sign up, then make an introductory post, and make use of the search facility before asking a question!!! (As an Admin on a couple of others, these are my pet hates, so I'll try to avoid doing the same here).
Okay, so I live in West Wales, and am the owner of a Freelander TD4 HSE Auto from 2006 - last of the Series 1's. I have only just bought this one, but it is pretty similar to my previous one, except that was an SE from 2005.......
I loved that car, but bought it in September for one reason/purpose only.... to drive it 4,500 miles down to The Gambia where it would be donated to the Rotary Club and sold off to benefit local charities.
So, the car drove 6K miles and didn't miss a beat, and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted another to replace it...... and will use it for a bit, before it also goes on a 1-way trip heading south, next January.
It is a bit of a 'project' having cost just £400..... in for an MOT next week, so I'll see what needs doing and make a proper plan after that.... so far, it needs a full service (as all new cars deserve), gearbox fluid change, IRD & Diff oil change, it had new brakes (pads, discs and shoes) last year, all lights and wipers work, so it stands a good chance at the MOT.
I drove it 200 miles home and it runs well, with just a couple of issues:-
1. Slight wobble/rumble which appears to be either a wheel bearing or CV joint - needs investigating and sorting
2. EGR pipe has been removed and plugged, so it needs looking at to see if it's been blanked off, is seized up, if it needs a clean/replacement or whatever.
3. 2 of the windows don't work (yeah, so what's new!) - I've got the repair cables for them, just waiting for the rain to stop (which, being in Wales, could be for 3 days in June) - did them on last years car, so know what needs doing.
4. Refit the original stereo (still has the CD multichanger under the seat) which was supplied when i got the car - may just fit an aftermarket one though as CD's are a bit 'old' and messing with coding it up may not be worthwhile..... and the SatNav is a bit out of date anyway... hey, at least the steering wheel controls will work with that unit!
5. Aircon works, but needs a re-gas
6. Is currently 2wd, so i need to source a prop for it.
7. fit a sump guard
8. Extra lights
9. Extra 12v and USB sockets (I hoped that being an HSE there would be one in the rear, but alas, no, so will be done)
10. create a roof basket from an IBC cage
I hope it's the bargain I think it is (the seller got fed up with paying more for the annual road tax than the car was worth), and as once it gets on the ferry to France, that no longer matters anyway.
So, that me, and that's the plan!
