Shouldn't need to wash it out. Small amounts of petrol would be ok, however it might be a good idea so that it is "de-crudded" prior to use.
Don't forget thare are a couple of good "howtos" on this site.
 
Oops..yep their are some gud ones on here..was late last nite so just did google search...give us a shout if ya need out callum as the mad hat man says prob better to flush tank budy....
 
thats a bastard callum have you got a engine lined up mate, and are you changing box aswell, just that im ringing someone later for a lift kit do you want me to see if he has a 200 laying about i think he should have

Well ime on the 90 for work this week.bludy works van broke down this morn,only bonus is ive just filld it to top.with diesel on works account just unda 70 quid
