Hello everyone, my 95 disco has what I call a death rattle when I hit a bump on the highway. I've replaced the tires, shocks and had wheels aligned and ballanced twice. At speeds above 60km the slightest bump in the road causes the disco front end to shake beyond controll. Only hitting the brakes and slowing will stop it. It's very scarey and I'm at a loss to figure out why.
I have taken it to a very reputable front end shop and they say that they can't find a problem. Taking it to the dealer soon for the fueltank replacement, should I get them to look at it?

Thanks for any help.

Aye probably the steering damper, but also check the swivel preload and as a real outside chancee, check the steering box is alligned correctly. There is only 'No play' in the correct centre position. If its been fitted wrongly and the drop link adjusted to compensate, then there will be excess play with the wheels straight. Check a manual for the correct angle of the drop arm in the straight ahead position.

Bigbird. (had this one on my RRC. Bugger it was!)

Okay, thanks for the reply's. I can't wait to see what the dealer comes back with for an estimate. If it's the steering damper I will fix it myself.

Steering damper from Rimmer Bros P/N STC786 will set you back around £47 and what ever they charge for delivery.
According to the haynes manual, it is very straight forward, just make sure the washers are installed in the correct sequence.

Yup, it was the damper all right. That and a few minor adjustments, seems to have fixed it. Thank's for your help.
