Been a bit chilly of late, so the usual defrost routine been used a lot. Running late this morning so didn't defrost the car fully before leaving home. Noticed that the door mirrors were still frozen when I got to work. The handbook claims they are heated all the time the engine is running, mine certainly aren't.

Looked in Rave looking for fuse, but can't find any reference to heating circuit, only electro-chromatic and auto dipping function. Do any of the experts out there know where this circuit may be fused.

Also as I have the auto dipping (electro-chromatic) interior mirror, does that mean the door mirrrors should do the same, as implied in Rave, or is that an optional extra???
 
To add another question should the wing mirrors dip aswell cause my drivers side one is a different colour to the passenger side..has it overheated and burnt the glass??

In Rave it shows the door mirrors connected to the rear view mirror, so when it dips the door mirrors should too. Never seen that bit work either, although the interior mirror dips OK.
 
Well thas really annoying then as the drivers one seems stuck in permanent dippness

they do a set of wing mirrors that do automatically dip if light shine onto them, but the glass replacements are £150 each, i think they are called photosomethingvesent or something.. i opted just to go for the heated glass instead at about £30 each. they should always be on if the engine is running, and thats why they burn out after a while, so if yours dont defrost then they are more than likely going to have blown. buy a new set, but be careful when prising them off to change them, because the part in the mirror they clip to can break easily. i bought spares just incase, but typical, they didn't!

When you say they have burnt out...do they look any different? or do they just stop heating?
Are they fused seperately?
 
Had another look through Rave last night and found the 2 fuses which drive the mirrors. There is F9 - 20A and F22 - 30A both BeCM fuses. I couldn't work out which of these was for the motors and which for the heating elements, I assume the 30A is for the heaters.

Didn't get chance to check mine (fuses) last night after trying to make sense of the Rave wiring diagrams.

Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.
 
they 'burn' out because on the back of the mirror glass there's a kind of mesh of flat wire a bit like thr rear screen de'mister but its on constantly.

they wont look any different, not like they go all burnt as such! just jam a screw driver behind it and prise it off!
i pulled it out far enough to poke my fingers behind, and then slid them around till it popped off. it is a horrible job to do, cos its like your going to break something! but it should be ok..

i wouldn't bother.. i'd just get a heated standard one for both..

the dipping one is like those reaction sunglasses that get darker with light, so you dont have to replace with the same!

Hey Sirus,

Does the other one change, dark to light etc with the rear view mirror, or does tht stay permenantly clear???

You could try shining a torch on the rear view to force it to go dark, and watch what happens to the door mirrors. The 2 should be linked according to Rave, if nothing happens, it may be that a tinted mirror glass has been fitted to replace a previously broken glass.
