My air suspension pump on my vogue is really noisy when raising or adjusting the suspension. Sounds like someone is letting rip in my boot everytime I start the car. It has done this ever since I've had the car but wondered if there was anything I could do?

Also as general advice with the air suspension, is it a good idea to use it regularly or is it best for no future problèms just to leave it alone? For instance for the last year, my car has never moved from the motorway setting. I prefer how the car looks this way so I pushed the mode lock version on a motorway run last year and its stayed in that mode ever since. Recently I've put it back to normal mode and tend to use the button on the drivers door to lower the car if I'm coming to a stop, for easy of access. Is one system better than other in terms of possible future faults? Is it better to use regularly to keep the rubber flexible or is it better to leave it locked in one mode? One thing that has surprised me is the car seems to corner better in normal mode rather than in motorway, but this might just be me dreaming it îs.

Thanks for any advice

The compressor carrier has isolation for the pump have you checked if one of them has given out? My compressor is somewhat noisy, but I put that down to it being in a cradle due to LPG system so I don't have a comparison for you but our P38 sounded horrible until I worked out I'd replaced the washers on the rubber isolation bushes for the compressor upside down....

i never noticed my suspension moving or the compressor running until one day i thought i would put in a new piston that i had bought about a year earlier when my front air struts went when i first bought it, literally on the way home.

After i fitted the new piston ring i now hear it running every time i get in it which means i am now listening out for it more and its done it all the time or when i took it out, i didnt quite mount it the same in the boot and it now makes more of a vibration. its certainly louder than i would expect so i am guessing i have disturbed the sound proofing or something.

it bolts to the boot floor as you have probably seen so if there is a rubber spacer missing or something that would probably make it very loud as the boot will act like a speaker.

the 4 big rubber mounted bolts you can see from the top dont actually fix it to the boot floor, there are just some small bolts around the outside i recall so you could check they are tight.

The air suspension is designed to be used and i am guessing mine was on the original delphi struts at 108K so i wouldn't think normal use would wear it out quickly. There are various moving parts including the height sensors that i would imagine would like to be used rather than sat still not to mention the suspension joints. i get some strange creaks and knocks from time to time and putting it into off road and then access and back to normal quite often shuts it up for a bit

good luck
