Would appreciate any help on this chaps.Have replaced the front discs and pads on me disco, 300tdi, non abs. Now, from the front off side, there is a annoying loud 'click' when the wheels go round. As soon as I touch the brake pedal, the noise stops!I cannot see anything obvious fowling the wheel or discs etc - have also replaced the pins & clips by to no avail. What should I look at next? Thanks for your help

Dont worry about it mate! Classic problem you get wear in the caliper, then when you clean all the ****e out for your new pads that slight be of slop lets em jiggle around a bit.

Solutions are:

1/Drive through 30cm of nice mud (or orrid mud) to pack em out again!

2/Turn yeh stereo up!

3/Change yeh calipers-Nooooooo!

4/Make some shims up, which I'm going to do cos mine do it toooo and will post plans ere when i do-

U should be able to get shims from the shop where u got your pads etc they are only thin bits of tin. Did u fit the pads with copper greese on the edges that locate with the caliper ?
I'm sure u did but I'm just asking.
Genuine Parts brake pads don't nead shims they have a fibre material stuck to the back of them. At least the last ones I bought from LR did.

Whipped front pads out whilst changing wheels over this afternoon.

After further investigation it appears that new rattling pads are exactly the same as old (non rattling) pads except for one thing. My old pads that for some obscure reason I kept have a thick piece of tape stuff on the back that the pistons bed into and hence stop them from rattling!!!

Put a piece of double sided carpet tape on the back of all the pads which has done the job but could really do with something a tad thicker/stronger!

Sorted!

Hi Jason2 ...re my previous post, Genuine Parts brake pads don't need shims they have a fibre material stuck to the back of them.

Oh right! Cheers Discool that explains why they are 10x more expensive!

Your not wrong jason2 I got some genuine rear pads back in 03 and then I paid £41.13.. The price then for the front was £43.00 so x 1,36 euros thats 58.48e.. Mintex pads in the Uk are about £15.00 as I'm sure u know from looking in the LR mags.

But it is 'swings and roundabouts' I came back from Calals last Friday with a few 30 bottle packs of beer for 5.80e (£4.26) each. Christmas will/has started early.

Note; u can get more beer in a RRC that a Disco.
