Hi All
My front or rear screen wash are not working. When you push the button on the stalk the wipers wipe ok but no water front or rear or on the headlamps? Can't hear any pump running. I see on rave that there are three pumps, unlikely they have all failed. No low level fault either! Any ideas anyone, please.

Thankyou

Peter

Check the relevant fuses.
I'd say it's unlikely to be the washer bottle unless the low wash sensor has failed, but those are good places to start :)

Front and rear washer pumps are switched by the BECM. Headlamp wash and wipe will only work when head lamps are switched on. Headlamp washer/wipe fuse 25 relay 11. Under bonnet fuse box. Think you need to check the pumps for function.

it happens a lot in winter..

water freezes and ya keep tryin to squirt screen, pump wont spin to fuse blows...

Thanks everyone for the quick replies! Yes there is water in the bottle! Pumps do not run when the button pushed just the wipers.
Thanks Warmers you are correct the headlamp washers are ok with lights on. Looked at rave and can't find any fuses in the circuit so looks like there may be no output from the BECM. Bit of a pain to get to the motors to check for voltage at the plug. Waiting on my nanocom coming so may be able to do some checks on the output. Looks like I will need to wire a temp switch to get through the MOT.

Thanks again everyone.

Think for the MOT, they need to operate on the correct switch...don't quote me!

I would suggest getting another washer bottle complete with pumps off flea bay.
Remove the inner plastic arch and there you have all you need.
1/2 hr and you should be done.
wiring a temp switch on a p38...I would not be so brave....it may bite you in the

Rear washer doesn't need to work at all for MoT. Guess how I know :)

Don't know for sure about the front, but I would guess it needs to work on the correct switch as Saint.V8 said.

As long as washers can be switched to supply liquid they do not have to be on the same switch as the wipers. There is no stipulation within the MOT that says they do.

I heard the other day that you could get points for not having fluid in yer washers is this right?

cos it were news to me

I know of a lad in Hull who refused to get out of his car when stopped by plod. refused to speak to cops other than to hand him a business card with his name and address on. wouldn't sign Producer etc. Refused to allow plod to inspect the car as he wasn't a registered motor vehicle inspector (whatever) so they got a vosa guy to go over the car with a fine tooth comb whilst he was sat in it. Only thing they found wrong was no water in screen wash bottle 3points on licence :D :D Before the days of FPN's or no doubt they'd have given him one as well.

:eek:the bastids

they just try to screw anyway they can now:mad:

not that i'm ever, i dunt remember anyroad, without washer fluid as it can be dangerous.

the number of cars travelling at night with only one headlamp working is far worse IMHO.

and that includes Police cars anorl, i told one once as i was at the side of him at traffic lights he thanked me and said he'd not noticed.

I'm sorry I've never heard anything so ridiculous as getting 3 points for not having screen wash . What if it runs out on a winters day salt on road constant cleaning of windows ect I could expect an advisory but 3 points and an fine I don't think so :)

Sorry but you do get a fine, after all most modern cars have very large bottles and warning lights to say it's low.
If it comes on stop at a petrol stn and fill it.......Simples!! ;)
