Well i was hoping to put this off till next year but the 90 had other ideas!

Last night the rear tail lights stopped working along with the registration plate light. Now all other rear lights work fine and the front lights including side work fine.

I,ve checked the fuse , the bulbs the switch..........however the loom has been butchered.

For some reason there is an earth cable (both red and black) running to the rear of the vehicle straight from the battery negative terminal, here it looks like johnny age 5 has soldered and crimped various cables together:(.

Ive checked all the earths at the rear ( there is a few like) and earth isn,t a problem. I,ve changed the bulb holders still no luck, i,m getting feed from the fuse box back , but once it hits the jumble of cables at the rear it seems to appear and disapper at will..

So is it safe to say i need to start fresh and cut the offending rear lights loom out and start again or should i be looking for something "outside" the box that i,ve missed

any help/comments/abuse would be gratefully received as this is doing ma head in now..........as i fecking hate electrics!

where loom exits and enters chassis known issue- as is rubbing through on body seam behind rear lights

I suggest you start again from a known live point. Good luck

thanks i cant afford to take her off the road just now , i may have to bodge a stright feed with a switch for the time being to keep me on the road, the lads at work are good wea electrics they just need time and brews.

I,m hoping the harness is good up untill the crossmember that should ease the pain.......we'll see!

fanatic the loom has allready been removed from the chassis by the previous owner/electrical wizzard..

It runs along the underside of the tub and once it gets to the crossmember it splits both left and right , but then it is bridged again on a different peice of loom that just is wired with black wires everywhere!

Take a few photos and bang them up.

The rear loom confused me to start with.

Basically the drivers side has twice as many wires going in to it, it then piggy backs off itself and goes to the passenger side - therefore for each light on the drivers side (or point on trailer socket if for like passenger indicator) there's two wires from the loom connecting to them. On the passenger side there's obviously just one wire.

if they've just suddenly stopped, and you've checked fuses, next point to look at could be earth.

Bang some photos up anyway, should be able to tell if anything looks off
