It appears in becoming a regular here.

Changed the box on my d2 td5 manual today. Got it all back in lovely, turn the key...it cranks fine, no start.

I THINK I connected everything back up fine, I will double check tomorrow but I'm sure I did. The only thing I can think it may be is the crank sensor..I unplugged it so not to pull the wire while tugging the box out. But all seemed to go back ok. While wiring the starter motor back up my mate forgot to disconnect the battery and shorted it onto the chassis..maybe that has something to do with it? But it turns strong!

Where would we start checking?

Thanks

Joe

its best to remove the sensor they can get damaged, have you refastened the 2 earth wires on drivers side of t/box

Ahhh, if only if have known!

Trying to remember the 2 earths. Are they the block conector just on the top drivers side of the t/box? I have a niggling feeling I forgot to plug something back in. I put the crank sensor back in. Then just the 2 connectors that come down near the hand brake to the top of the t/box. One to the left, and one to the right, near the breathers. My head isn't quite in it this eve.

Thanks @jamesmartin , you've been a big help the last couple of days

there are 2 connectors 1 for diff lock and the other hi/lo switch, but these black wires bolt on the side of the t box

I don't remember taking them off!? I will have to have a look in the morning. On the side? Or are they on the top?

Ta,

Joe

Also, it doesn't have dif lock, and it doesn't have high/low on switch, it's cable!?

it will have a hi/lo switch screwed into front of output housing, it will still have both connectors but they arent the problem, the earths can be

on the side of the box just behind hi/lo housing is a lug with 2 m8 threaded holes top one holds the earth wires

I can't quite see where you mean on that picture...I'm sure it will become obvious when I get under there tomorrow

Another thing! The clutch seems to have a bit of slack at the top before it feels like it is doing anything. Bled it up at the slave, doesn't seem to have changed it. Thought I would try it once running to see if it is operating as it should.

can you hear the pump when you turn ignition on II... about the clutch, if the slave cylinder is old once released from the push rod it can become unbleadable due to internal wear which hurts the piston seal at the end of it's travel so new one is needed

The crank sensor was buggered as I suspected! So put the one in from the other box and it's away!

Regarding the clutch, it operates fine. It's had a new slave and master. Tried bleeding it up. Not having it! But it does work fine. Just the slack at the top? Maybe I shouldn't worry about it! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Cheers guys.

Joe
