I got 4 19' Sport Alloys on mine but left the spare as an 18' Hurricane & put 4 spare (Original) wheel nuts in with the Jack (Sports & Hurricanes have different types of Wheel nut) & have a "Hub Spider" rather than a "Hub Spanner" ... (then it fits ALL sizes of wheel nuts)

The original "Emergency Spare" Manufacturers are suppling with NEW cars these days aint the same size as the "Standard" supplied wheels anyhow........So if THEY can do it ... I saw NO reason why (In an Emergency) I could not fit a 18' wheel as a replacement for a flat 19' wheel..........

Calculates out at 12mm difference in diameter, or about half an inch. So if there`s 1/4" spare at edge of existing (unworn) wheel guess it should fit. Not actually done it tho`.
255-55-18=368.85mm
255-60-18=381.6mm
(Took dimensions from carbibles.com/wheel-tyrebible).
Don`t know how to stretch size of wheel well without an angle grinder and polyfilla?!

I had a P38 in a few weeks ago with 20" wheels, including the spare. The wheel was jammed well & truly in the well, had to let the tyre down to get it out which is a wasted exercise if you have a puncture!!
God knows how people with 22's get on.
Think I'll stick to my standard 255-55-18's

Spare wheels eh ???????????.... the last company car I had was a BMW 1 series Coupe ..I blew a tyre on the M11 ... spent a good 45 minutes lookin fer the spare ......

Called out the AA ...& he couldn't find it either!!!! several phone calls later (to various BMW agents) ..we get ...................."Oh 1 series DON'T HAVE SPARE WHEELS!!!!!!, they are fitted with "RUN FLAT" tyres ....just carry on but don't got over 65MPH !!!!!!!"

FFS talk about COST CUTTING .......So I trundles off to the nearest AST/Kwik-Fit ect ....only to get ............."OH!!! its a "RUN FLAT" ..we don't repair run flats you'll need a new tyre...JESUS it only had a Panel Pin in it & THAT was right in the middle of the tread!!!!

£202!!!!.......WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The most expensive puncture repair ever has to be when my daughters six month old BMW got a flat. She took it to the dealer who wanted £175.00 for the run flat tyre. She did not fancy that, so part ex'd it for new car + £17,500.00. Unbelievable but true.

I run 22s on mine and like you say cant get one in the wheel well for every day driving i just have a standard wheel and tyre in the boot to get me home but if i go over about 70 miles from home I always chuck a spare 22 in the boot but you do lose a lot of room did look at having the well cut out and made deeper and wider only problem i found with that was I would lose the tow bar and dont want to do that

Speed traps won't be a problem either. At 30 indicated you will only be doing about 22mph. Bet it goes right around the clock at a true 100.

Hi, Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, solved by letting tyre down until it would squeeze in and out of well, enough air in tyre to get to nearest garage/filling station. Also considering small portable air pump, maybe one of those worked by cigar lighter? Jack707.

While on suject of 255/60/18,s fitted to 1998 P38, how do i calibrate true speed. Heading for Spain soon so i would like to go as fast as legally possible. regards Jack707.

With great dificulty. Or there is a site can't recall it's name but just search tyre sizes and try a few that come up. It gives true speed for different combinations. To be honest don't think your's will be a lot out. Try this

T'other way Wammers. The bigger the wheels, the more speed for a given revs so the speedo will under-read. How much I haven't a clue though. (Think back to fitting 12" wheels to a mini when 10" were the norms).

Yep silly me wrong way round. Incidentally and just for information. Any vehicle manufactured after i think 2001 MUST have a speedo that reads - 10% +0% at 30 mph. It is illegal if it doesn't. So if you have indicated 30 mph you can be doing 27,28,29 or 30 but not 31. On vehicles made before that date the allowance is i think, + or - 10% at 30 mph. So at an indicated 30 you could be doing between 27 and 33 mph. That is why speed cameras have an allowance of + 10% +2mph. So should not go off until you exceed 35 mph. Because speedo's before 2001 could indicate 30 but you could be doing 33. Think the regulation was brought in in a bill in 1999 but only ratified in 2001. To give manufacturers a chance to introduce it.
Think thats right but of course like many things passed on by rumour could also be a load of horse ****.
