New boy here !
Disco 2 , TD5 auto, gutless wonder , gearbox is holding first for a short time when cold and and hill will cause the box to drop out of top , even a slight incline is enough!
I’m thinking two separate issues, but I’m a V8 man so TD5 is all new to me.
Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

part;y emmisions reasons, partly the TD5 is quite revvy for a Diesel.

How well does it go on full throttle?

A number of things to check. Yes, it’s the ECU beside the battery to check the red plug for oil. Disconnect the battery first though and wait a few minutes before you unplug it. Also the turbo waste gate isn’t sticking. MAF sensor and FPR (fuel pressure regulator) could also be at fault.

Beside the already mentioned run a stall test on it and if you get the rpms for "reduced engine power" do this: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/check-td5-fuel-pump-hp.358086/

Ok all, done the gearbox stall check and the fuse draw check both are within the guidelines given, also cleaned the RED plug on the ECU , small amount of oil but nothing major. Plugged in Delphi diagnostic kit and no codes and no improvement.
It’s really starting to annoy me now

MAP/IAT sensor....
Was the culprit on mine...
Obvs once testing done via Foxwell live data.
Made all the bliddy difference!;)

Falling out of top on an incline is not surprising but I am beginning to wonder if your wastegate actuator is playing up, or the wastegate itself.
How many threads are showing on the actuator arm? It should be 13.

My lack of power was the MAF. Unplug it and see if it makes any difference... That won't cost you anything but 5 minutes of your time. Had the same, guttless performance, lack of low end power, and no codes coming up.

The amount of oil is quite irrelevant, once it's there means that you need a new injector loom cos the contacts are already affected at the solenoids and head plug

I doubt that it is accurate with the Td5 albeit it has in in the coverage list, at this point you need a live data log recorded with nanocom from a drive to catch the symptom i dont see other way to find the issue

You sir are a feckin genius, 20 threads showing, adjusted to 12/13 and all appears to be well. Vehicle hasn’t driven this well for 2 years. Thank you
