hi i recently bought a discovery after suffering with a freelander , its an r reg es model only 138 thou on it, its automatic, i drove it to dorset from birmingham last weekend and it felt like up hills there was no power ive found that theres no back box on the exhaust could this be the problem to low power?, feels as theres no turbo kicking in??

300 auto can be slow on the hills - Ask me how I know. Torque band is quite narrow, and if you aren't in it, it will slow down, a lot!

does it still have the EDC system working? MIL light coming on with "ignition", and then going off after a few secs ?

Kick down cable present, connected, and adjusted properly?

boost gauge is a simple fit to the 300TDi - even the EDC ones - which will tell you if the turbo is working.

Boost gauge isn't standard, but as said, simple to fit. Could be a sticking EGR valve or stuck wastegate, loads of info about both on the forum.

When is the last time it was serviced including gearbox oil? Have you pulled the intercooler pipes off to see how much oil is in the as you may need to flush the intercooler out if it's oily

I dont know about any of that to be honest theres no turbo gauge on it tho

Ok, but to help you, you will need to know about such things! Do a search on here - there are loads of pictures in other threads which will help you understand which bit is which - or post some pics of your engine bay, and folk will help you out...:)

If you want to do good by her ... get a decent welder ...:D

When I bought mine it was flat compared to a usual 300 and felt like a lack of turbo. I had a look around and noticed that the actuator rod had come off the wastegate. To check this lean in over the passenger side wing and you can just see it behind the exhaust side of the turbo (I'd put pics up but I've no idea how to). Anything more than a visible check needs to be done with the engine cold but basically make sure the long straight rod behind the turbo is connected to the wastegate that you can see, my circlip had disappeared and the rod had come off and hidden itself behind the wastegate
