So I did it sounds like a burbling V8 but now I think about it and get more sensitive to it it seems to be missing more and more
Can I test the maf with a meter ?

Can you take a trace with the Nanocom of all the engine modules? Maybe someone on here could compare to their and see if anything is out?

Disconnect the MAF and start the engine, if it does not miss with MAF disconnected MAF is faulty.

If you can you have a duff MAF. Engine should cut out when MAF is disconnected.
Did you buy a new MAF (Bosch)?

Can I drive it with the maf disconnected ?

Not really it will be totally gutless. But engine should start and run without MAF connected. If an engine won't start or runs and misses with MAF connected, but will start and does not miss when run with MAF disconnected MAF is faulty.

Sounds like your MAF could be ok. If it's bad the car runs on default settings so will run with it disconnected. At least mine did when my MAF was faulty. New MAF fitted & disconnecting would stall the engine.

I am not the brightest today no :)
Did a compression test all 8 were @ 175psi or over seems to run ok cold then choke up when warn
As though it stops running on 2 or three when warm ?

Then listen, start the engine and get it warm. Note if it's missing and/or slow lumpy throttle response. Stop engine and disconnect the MAF. Start engine, if it appears to run better with MAF disconnected. MAF is duff. With MAF disconnected it should run without missing but will be low on power with poor but smooth throttle response. Good diag may tell you something. Have you checked for exhaust restrictions.

Could it bea coil pack breaking down when hot, possibly a HT lead?

Coil packs, plugs could be a few things. At least he knows compressions are ok. Good diag may shorten the odds considerably. But i suppose carrying on guessing is an option. ;);)

I replaced plugs coil packs and leads will do wammers test next how do I check for exhaust restrictions (without removing them) more to the point can I ?

Check the flow out of the tail pipes should build pressure if covered by an hand held rag. A weak flow if engine is revved will be obvious.

When was it last serviced? id suggest to drop the oil, air filter, put some injector cleaner in to see if that cured before going down anything to expensive ('99 have fuel filter?). Fuel/Air/Spark you are having a lack of one or a combination of them if it is not as simple as above
