Hi there could anyone please help me with this i recently bought an R Reg Landrover Defender 90 2.5 tdi 300 series has roughly 130000 on clock i find it has no power uphill i am going into second gear its like a tortoise i have had a new actuator on full service had a landrover dealer diagnostics test and that came back normal i am refilling the water up every three days is it possible that my head could have gone !! thank you

Possible doesn't come close 99.99% certain it's gone would be more like it

Hi not sure i took it to someone and they said they replaced the actuator im presuming it was something to do with fuel!! can tell i know nothing about landrovers lol

was this "someone" the same person who did the "landrover dealer diagnostics test" ?

no power uphill is usually lift pump gone

check / replace air filter, fuel filter, clean sedimenter, might help too..

Hi guys thanks for the replies ill do the above this weekend if no success i think its going for pressure testing thanks again Rachael

no power plus new water every 3 days is ususally head/headgasket failure.

is there water in ur oil?

hi theres no oil in the water its the usual colour no yellow or white gunk been told im possibly loosing the water through my exhaust is that possible too ??????? im wanting to get it done as i want to take it to Jeremy Fern let him have a play with it but no point if the heads gone

you'll only get water in the oil. Or oil in ya water if the head gasket has gone between an oilway and/or a waterway If it's gone near the piston then it'll get into one of the bores and get shot down the exhaust or hydrolock ya engine. sympton of hgf will always vary depending on where the HG has blown.

is it possible you have a water leak on one of you pipes sounds stupid i no but  iv never heard of losing water through the exhause though

i thought mine was leaking from the pipe into the water pump found out after it was my water pump that was fooked it so nicley dumped all my anti freeze/water on the floor outside halfrauds felt a right nob:doh:

lol Its fine for oil just waters a problem not sure where to go from here im begginning to think shes reallllyyyy illlllll !!!!! there are no pipes leaking water i spent all last weekend under her she has never overheated since i have had her so to me GOD KNOWS

you probably fill her up wi water before she gets a chance to overheat get a compression test sounds like head to me (no inurendo intended)

Tis quite simple really. If there's no water leaking out from any of the pipework and your radiator isn't oozing somewhere, it's got to be going into your engine and it could be doing so a number of ways:

1) Failed head gasket
2) Cracked head
3) Cracked block

As Redhand said, if your oil level isn't creeping up, the water is obviously being spilled straight into a cylinder and then pushed back down the exhaust. If this is the case, it will have bent a con rod without a doubt because water does not compress! (as I'm sure you know).

My engine keeps loosing its power and I'm in the process of tracing it down to being a couple of things. First of all, the fuel pickup pipe in my fuel tank does not have the steel gause / filter mesh covering the tip (as the older one used to have as standard) which is allowing all the crap at the bottom of my fuel tank to be sucked up straight into my fuel filter which is clogging once every two weeks. These bits of dirt are also getting stuck in the lift pump mechanism which is being jammed - preventing it from being able to pump any fuel into my filter housing. It was literally pumping nothing! It can be cleaned out however which I've done recently. Also, my front brakes have decided to start binding which kills the engine completely, especially on hills.

lol thanks for that mad hunter ill get it to my mechanic this next week get a test done thanks all you guys for your help

If you can, do a cylinder leakage test (it's a bit different). The kit has a gauge which shows how well your cylinders are sealing as a percentage. Each of my cylinders were running at 95% efficiency last week.
