hi all, tried to search but cannot find any answer. used diff lock at weekend and since then the lever will move left to right and switch light on and off as in neutral position left and right, though it seem as though it is always in high range. the lever will move forward to the low range position but i didnt try to move it far to see if it was actually in low range. is it likely that the linkage is seized in high range and needs freeing off? thanks in advance

diff lock operation ands high low are seperate functions but do use the same lever operating different linkages diff lock can be selected what ever position lever is for hi/low, remove tunnel and check hi/low linkage if lever wont go forwards/backwards

Bit confused here. If you are trying to find neutral by moving the knob left and right, you are on a hiding to nothing. To find neutral on the transfer box you push the knob forwards so that it is half way between high and low range. If the knob moves forward to the low position then it is more than likely that the transfer box actually is in low range. The easy way to check this is to put the main box into 3rd and put the transfer box into low. If you can then move forward on a level surfac easily without revving the engine and slipping the clutch a lot, then you are in low range.

go in your defender put the range lever from high range into neutral, thats where mine is yet it drives forward in high box when it should be in neutral
