Not true. They have to pay out the 3rd party claim, they may refuse to pay for your own damage however.

Some companies allow modifications, some don't. Check before you buy then you wont be offended when they say no.

I also agree with whoever said it above, I wouldn't have bothered telling them about any of those mods that could have come from the factory like that.

Fair enough its good to know that they have to pay 3rd party, I thought they didn't. I'm not "offended" just frustrated that they have no flexibility. But I am taking my business elsewhere if I can so I'll put my money where my mouth is.

Thanks mate I haven't tried NFU but as I live in central Nottingham would they insure me?

I'm pretty sure that doesn't make the slightest bit of difference, they insured my 110, then I put some mods on, rang them up to tell them and they just basically said thanks for telling us, and premium stayed the same;);)

Wow worth a shot then! I'll call them tomorrow.

Yes.

I'm currently with Flux. Send Dan the Flux sponsor on this site a pm if you want to sort out any niggles. Flux will send you out a modifications sheet where you list all the mods you have. I ran out of space on the form.:D

For A plan ring 01635 -879910 and ask to speak to Dan Cameron.

He will deal with you personally from taking out the policy right through to making a claim. He specialises in 4x4's.

For NFU, look up the nearest branch on the interweb.

Both A plan and NFU quotes were better than flux's (only by about £70 and £50 respectively) but they both had niggles due mainly to my job that meant I couldn't cover my landy quite as I wanted to.

I'll also try sureterm. What's weird is that some insurers seem to be ok with mods with one Landy driver and then a new one comes along and they say nope. No logic to it!

I'm with flux, have 3years NC's and payed £375 fully comp, my disco was modded with all the norm stuff, lift kit, MT's, winch etc and I asked if I did anything would it up it and they said no :) been with them 2 years now and will stay there :) I was 27 when I 1st went with them so age isn't always a factor ;)

What the **** that makes no sense at all! Oh hang on, you're on the Isla of White, not eggsactly a high risk area .

Could be living in central Notts that's killing me. Arse.

Haha it was a lot higher before I got in to landys, I had a 1.6 escort and it was £1000 3rd party lol and it's "Isle Of Wight" makes me laugh that 90% of people get that wrong ;)

Right folks I think I've come to a decision. As per my above post I'm really starting to think that this post code is what's murdering me, as technically it's classes as the Meadows area which is a cesspool of scum and villainy. Even though there's a fecking great business park and a railway junction between me and it and my area isn't a thourofare. So I'm going to wait a bit until I can muster the cash to move out of the city which I want to do anyways. Sometime in the new years I eggspect. I daresay moving into the outer 'burbs or cunnrysoid will slash my premuim quite considerably. Besides it'll give me a few months to save up some cash for all these tasty mods.

So for now I'm just going to put some new shoes on it, not big knobbly wuns. So in a few months if someone wants to buy some nicely treated part worns I'll be sellin 'em.

In the meantime I'm goint to make sure it's a properly sorted motah. New VCU and some interior work. Dissapointed but oh well can't be helped, and my patience will hopefully be rewarded in a few months.

Will.

- AT tyres
- Light guards
- Nudge bar
- Rock sliders

AT tyres - Buy some Pirelli scorpion str tyres like below, or a similar road biased AT tyre, rather than a more oft road biased AT tyre. Don’t buy AT tyres unless you’ve been in a FL1 which has them. I made the error of putting up with them until I got fed up with them. Aggressive patterns int always the best option. I had loads of fun with Michelin xpc’s some years ago. str are similar. Pirelli scorpion str 215/65R16 98H £571 for 5 tyres fitted.

Nudge bars – don’t bother. They look awful and it will save you money.
Rock sliders – drive carefully and don’t go mad

I’m with flux and have listed my mods. Also emailed them to confirm they is happy with them.

Anyone reading this thread thinking they can get away with not telling their insurance about mods is wrong. If they find out they will cancel yer insurance, or dangle you by the nuts. You’ll then get points on yer license and a fine. The chance to go to court too. Also you’ll need to ring up all other current insurance (house etc) to tell them yer been refused insurance and persecuted for not having correct insurance. Insurance companies are always happy to hear the word "fraud" after they've taken yer money. It will be good practice for when you next try for insurance… “have you ever been refused?..." Yes.

Claiming mods were fitted when you bought the car int enough of an eggscuse. It’s up to you to check.

Not aimed directly at you, just a general comment. There's many a stooopid tratterer lurking in ere who will read it. ;)

I know, just nice to be vindicated on the virtues of obeying terms of my insurance - lots wouldn't bother but I don't do well when I tempt fate. Just int one of those people who can.

Anyway thanks for all your suggestions guys, quite a few insurers to try when I'm in a cheaper postcode :).

If I was in your shoes I'd get the quotes anyway. You ain't gonna know how much cheaper your new postcode is unless you know the price of yer old one.

I was thinking this while reading it.

I have only done two mods, tow bar and roof lights, both declared, insurance isn't bothered. Something I have found is that an insurance company that refuses mods loses a lot of money, think of all the cars you see with tow bars.

The whole "modifications" thing goes rite down to non standard wipers, bulbs and ****e like that, so be careful if you don't declare bits, it may just bite you in the arse
