Hi all, thanks for the add..I have just purchased a freelander TD4 2.0 diesel 53 plate. On way home indicators worked fine however realised the hazard lights didn't work and the switch is not lit. A day later and now the indicators have also stopped working ! .. I have checked all fuses under steering wheel and under bonnet and swapped the relay for another one in the car into the far right relay slot as per Haynes manual but still nothing ...can anyone help if any known issues, as currently cannot drive thanks Marcus

Hello Marcus.
You now entered the maze of fun. The last question you had asked before on introduction section about the steering coil. Yeah this is a problem that crops up when the indicators don't worry radio volume or any other stork functions play up. It sits behind the steering airbag. So really if this is working okay then no problems. As for the hazzard lights they are separate. Have you checked the indicators outside are not working also. If so does the dashboard display show the red triangle and the trailer flashing.

First thing I'd do is replace the flasher unit. It's responsible for feeding the power to the indicators, via the stalk switches. The stalk switches are generally pretty reliable, so I'd go with the flasher unit first.
The hazard switch simply joins all the indicators together, again using the same flasher unit, so this also points to the flasher unit.

Thanks for the info and there are no lights on dash when I turn them on and also not working outside , however I have noticed when I lock the car they flash! .. I have ordered another hazard switch as this doesn't light up at all and appears dead. This wasn't working when I bought but indicators were. I will check the volume controls etc later when I get home from work.. cheers

The indicators are also fed power by the alarm ECU, which is completely independent of the the normal indicator flasher unit.

It's not uncommon for the little bulb in the hazard switch to fail.
I will check the volume controls etc later when I get home from work.
The steering wheel controls aren't anything to do with the indicators.

There is nothing coming from the hazard switch at all ..not lighting up and no indicators flashing. I swapped the relay with another one in the relay box and still no indicators or hazards :(.. is there any issues whereby wiring breaking

If the flasher unit isn't working, then the hazard switch won't do anything.

The indicators are controlled by flasher unit, which isn't a normal relay, so can't be swapped with anything else in the fuse box.
The flasher unit is the black box on the bottom right, in this picture.

Thank you I will get another and try it :)

I've just looked at the wiring diagram, and it appears the hazard lights are powered by the CCU (Central Control Unit), so doesn't use the normal indicator flasher unit. This could point to an issue with the CCU, however I'm not 100% sure how the 2 circuits connect, and where, or what happens to the indicators, if the hazard switch is in the on position.

Ahhh man! ..I hear pound signs when I hear of CCU mentioned :( .. I am going to change relay and hazard switch and see where we are I think. Thanks for the tip though

You can put the CCU in test mode, which will test its function, including the hazard lights. ;)
Here's how do put the CCU in test mode.

Great thank you ! What is the rear fog lamp guard switch? Is that the fog light switch on dash?
Yes, it's the rear fog light.
It's easy to put it in test mode. I did it to mine last summer, although I've now sold it and moved on to a badly maintained FL2.

Thank you all for your help ..I popped in the Local Landrover maim stealer and purchased a new relay (with tow pack extra?) And 44 quid lighter but it's all working including the hazards #winning

That's interesting. That means the CCU still uses the flasher unit, just routing the flasher through both sides. Clever ah. :)

Glad it's working.

Well at least we have learnt from it and if anyone has the same symptoms. Matter of interest when I put indicator on now I have a little trailer symbol flashing as well? Is this normal?
Thanks again for all your help

Trailer symbol should only flash on once unless trailer connected with extra load.

Worth checking you haven't got a short somewhere which could have caused the last flasher to fail.
