Right then, so my lightweight has been going through abit of a restoration for years and years, today I went to check the gearbox was working properly, and the 4wd yellow lever won’t stay depressed at all when in high range and the red level doesn’t seem to have the ablility to go into high or low range. No work was done on the gearbox as it was working 100% when I started to sort out everything else. Anyone got any ideas, I turned the engine over by hand whilst the gearbox was in gears 1-4 and reverse with both overdrive in and out and at no point did it move any propshafts.... I’m assuming it’s something simple I’ve missed. thanks in advance.

Also, what would happen if the clutch plate was put in backwards? Would the clutch never be able to disengage? Or would the engine and the gearbox never be linked?

To check the shaft remove the floors and gearbox tunnel, at the front of transfer there is a cover over the shaft. Remove cover and clean/free the shaft.

Its been standing too long. You need to get the output case selector shafts free. Take the cover of the front of the output case and clean up the shafts.

The cover located just above the front output housing, sometimes cover missing allowing the 3 shafts to rust up
