I have the same issues - heater seems to have a mind of its own, works when it wants to and not when it doesn't. Sometimes have heat, sometimes have fan, sometimes have nothing - how quaint!!
 
A lot of cars use resistors to control fan speed, located
in the airflow to cool them
Often they break due to vibration or over heating
Some can be repaired, i repaired mine on a rover 45
Not sure where they are on yours, but i'm sure i've
seen a recent thread in the disco section

ok, so how do you modify them and make them better.
must be an aftermarket blower that will increase the power etc somewhere!!!
 
Or be a man and put up with the cold? My heater rarely goes on, last time I put it on was when it was 3.5 degrees :D
