My 300tdi defender headlights have stopped working, if you pull back the stalk you can flash the headlights so bulbs are fine.
I've tried bypassing the main light switch to no avail.
I've also replaced the light relay behind the dash.
I don't know if it's related but my heater is not blowing at all anymore. Unsure when this stopped working as ive only started needing it again!
All other lights work fine.

I assume the next step is tracing my wires and trying to find a loose cable/ dodgy earth? But here's hoping someone might know of something I've overlooked.

Cheers

Try the big blue 60A fuse under the bonnet. Mine went recently and it was a combination of that and the pink relay behind the dash that needed replacing

Or no tester either, but most likely heater as the a is next to s on keyboard and easy to hit the wrong key, I fo it sall the time.

the other main cause, according to the posts I have read, is the indicator/horn/headlight dip switch (pt# STC439).

When my lights went recently, I checked/swapped the interior fuses, main light switch, indicator/horn/headlight dip switch, under bonnet fuse (mine was blown), the pink relay behind the instrument cluster (mine was burnt out).

looking at your list at the top I don't think you've checked this, but I could be wrong!

Also, when you say the heater isn't working, do you mean the fan isn't blowing the heat?

This only tells you the main beam elements are fine it doesn't tell you that your dipped beam elements are fine, have you checked the bulbs? I know it would be rare for both to fail but they should be checked before venturing further.

I will check them but the full beam works when I pull the stalk back but not if it was under normal full beam driving. Thanks :)

Mine did exactly the same when we rolled off the ferry into the 8pm Barcelona traffic !. Had to wedge the flasher stalk to have any lights , I changed the stalk arm assembly and all good.

Finally sourced my problem to be the connection between the male bullet style connector on the feed into the light stalk and the flat contact strip that makes the connection to high or low beam if that makes sense?

I've soldierd them together but have orderd a new stalk just incase it doesn't hold up.

Thanks for the help.
