Hi to all from swindon,I have a 1968 109 with a defender 300tdi engine and box in it,last wednesday I came back from shopping landy was running great, parked it in the drive all was well, came out the following morning to go to work and could not get it to go into gear, plenty of pressure on clutch pedal just refused to go into any gear (no grinding just physically refused),thought I would change the slave cylinder (had to start somewhere) bled it through and all was fine, went to work (fine)went to come home and it refused to go into gear again,RAC said it was clutch so changed it and found three lugs had broken off the pressure plate and were wedged inside pressure plate fingers ,I thought I had found the problem, fitted a heavy duty clutch kit bled it through but now I cant get reverse or 1st,it will go into the other gears but you have to push it hard,it will only go into 2nd and 3rd low box, so original problem wasnt the clutch BUT WHAT WAS IT!!!!!!!, sorry to waffle on but I really need someones help to get to the bottom of this, many thanks for reading.

the tree selector shaft jaws have to be exactly alined in correct place , there are a dentent ball and spring to ensure this, they may be seizing ,2 under l shaped plate on side of top one for 1st 2nd under cap on top , unless shafgts are aligned gears can be selected as only one shaft at a time can be moved if one isnt fully home the rest wont work ,obviously you could hyave issues in the box but they could only be fixed with box removal and overhaul

Thanks for the quick reply,I've never delved inside a gearbox before ,is there anything I should look out for when I take the top plate off like pinging springs or anything that could fall inside etc. cheers.

I forgot to mention this only happens with the engine running, when not running the gears can be selected very smoothly.
