HELP!!
I have a 1990 200TDI Disco1 that has lost all drive? I was pulling away from a junction in 1st when it felt like she'd slipped out of gear. Clutch operation is normal, gear lever operation is normal and diff-lock/high-low lever is operating normally. There are no strange noises.
My usual mechanic thinks it's the transfer-box.
I am looking for a second-hand one. Can anyone tell me which boxes will fit? 300TDI or Range Rover classic? Or does it have to be a 200TDI?
Do you think it's the transfer-box?
Any advice gratefully received.
Regards, Guy.

Sounds like the splines on the gearbox output shaft, take the round cover off the transfer box .

Is cover on a side, on top or underneath? Will I be able to see or feel if splines are shot? If it is the shaft, can I replace just that?

Round cover just above and left of the hand brake drum on back of box.

If it is the shaft that has failed then you will see the shaft turn and the outer gear staying still.

The cover is at the rear of the t/box, just up from the handbrake drum, remove it then you can see the transfer gear, you check to see if the shaft is turning inside the gear.
If it is you need to fit a new output shaft to the gearbox, plus a new transfer gear, unless you can do it yourself it's cheaper to fit another box .

Where are you?? it helps if peeps know your location as someone may have a cheap transfer box for sale & yes it will need to be off a discovery lt77 gearbox.

indeed dependant on where you are located there is people with disco boxes kicking about as its quite a common problem.

well i'm miles away in Bedfordshire so your better off grabing one more local and tbh my gearbox has some spline wear hence why its very cheap and only really good for somone to get them out the crap for a while so they can save for a recon unit.
