Hi chaps,

New to this forum and owning a landy :D

I have a 300tdi, and all was fine up until one day exhaust was coming in the cab, no boost and a weird sound.

Took it to a garage with suspect manifold gasket, they said it was the headgasket and so that was done.

Since then ive had no boost at all, ive changed the turbo, cleaned the intercooler and replaced hoses and still no boost!

Black smoke billows out when accelerating.

I have no idea where to look next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Many thanks,

Jon

I'd pop a post in the "Introduce Yourself" section. It'll save on agro from the regulars and you are more likely to get a few sensible answers rather than just ****taking ;)

No idea about your problem tho'

Don't see why I would get agro or the **** taken out of me?? Ive used search and cant find anything, im at my wits end with it now.

remove turbo to inter cooler pipe at turbo see if turbo spins up , remove air filter to turbo pipe see if thats better

cos you dint go to the aptly named "introduce yourself" section...

anyhoo, have you checked the small pipe that goes to the injector pump is connected both ends, the impeller is spinning freely, and the wastegate actuator rod moves freely and isnt seized.

Turbo is spinning up, just had the turbo replaced as old one had play and had lots of oil in it.

Removed the air filter pipe to turbo and still no difference.

Sorry I haven't introduced myself right away, this is my main vehicle and all that is on my mind at the moment, not anyones favorite person to be around right now. Im a subbie and without transport I dont bring in coin

Forgot to say the old turbo was producing no boost either.

Manifold gasket was done aswell as rocker cover gasket

Thanks,

Jon

its more likely your loosing boost than it not producing, check the pipe to the IP like I said, and check the intercooler for damage.
take the pipe off from the outlet of the turbo and give it a rev, see if its blowing well.
then put each pipe on in turn and see if its still blowing, put yer hand over the pipes as you go (not on the front of the turbo, bit too close to the impeller ;) ) see where you loose boost.

Sorry mate that pipe is connected but looking old and i think im going to replace it but not sure what it is called?

Intercooler was cleaned out today and not blocked, the fins arent in great condition some are squashed. There was a oily gunk down the right hand side looking at it from the front of the 90.

I did replace all 3 pipes today with Terrafirma silicone hoses, there is pressure in the hose that goes into the inlet manifold but not enough so it is still easy to squeeze in by hand.

You mentioned loosing boost, is it possible the intercooler is cracked somewhere and the gunk I mentioned could infact be oil that had leaked from it?

yes you need to check all pipework and intercooler, etc.

since you've spent a fair wodge on parts so far, why not either buy a boost leak tester or make one yourself. have a look on ebay/amazon.

you basically take the pipes off, block the ends and pump air into them. if the gauge drops then you have a leak.

you can also buy boost gauges you can fit inside the landy if that floats your boat :)

Will track one down and give it a go. Found the part numebr for the pipe, have ordered one and will fit that in the meantime.

Will post again in a few days let you know how I got on with it.

Thanks for the help so far fellas, really appreciate it!

It could be that your exhaust system is bloked
Remove the exhaust at end of the down pipe and give it a go

Thats my wild stab in the dark

I had a similar issue once and after a lot of investigation and replaced parts, I found the the Wastegate Actuator rod had popped off the turbo. A little wiggling, swearing and cuts to my hands had the little bugger back on and the turbo working once again.
