looking for some help in solving lack of acceleration when cold!
110 '06 TD5. Ever since owning it (about 4 years) anytime I start it from cold the accelerator just doesn't seem to respond! Never really bothered but thought I should maybe try and solve the puzzle. If I leave it running for a minute or two it performs normally and runs absolutely fine until next time starting from cold.
Any ideas would be welcomed

mine used to do that, think it was caused by a dirty MAF sensor in the intake manifold though can't really remember to be honest.

What little experience I have of the TD5 suggests to me this is an electronics issue. I suggest diagnostics are in order, to get live data from stone cold, and hopefully see the problem.

Simple enough to clean the MAF :)

Had the same thing on my 110 TD5 when l first got it....changed MAF unit and it was cured.
lf the MAF is faulty it takes a minute for the ECU to revert to default settings, and until then it won't respond to the gas pedal.
The missus's newly bought 90 TD5 did it too, l went back to the LR lndy dealer we'd bought it from.... and he plonked a new MAF unit on the counter. "Fit this" he said. Guess what....it cured the fault.

safest thing to do before spending any pennies if see if anyone locals got a nanocom or something. Thatll confirm the maf problem.

don't buy cheap mafs by the way (if it is that problem) I had a load of problems with cheap ones failing after just a few weeks. Get a genuine OEM one. Ive had no problems since.

I fitted an OEM in my 110 which cost nearly £100 but the cheap £30 one that the LR lndy dealer provided under warranty is still working fine in the 90 after 18 months.

Are they? I never knew that. I thought a remap just put in more fuel when you call on the engine to deliver.

I had a load of problems with the cheapo's, corrosion would get them after just a few weeks and the signal would be lost. Had no issues with an OEM.

Normally I am all for saving a few quid.

Disconnected the Maf yesterday and there seemed to be an immediate response from the Accelerator!! took it for a quick spin and seemed to be slightly better and certainly no worse than usual. Have ordered a new Maf today so will see what difference it makes when it arrives. Got a Siemens oem for £72 delivered.

Bit of an update!
Great service from Island 4x4, ordered Monday afternoon, delivered Tuesday morning!!!!
Fitted it when it arrived and accelerator responded straight away. was out and about most of the day yesterday and it seemed much better and better response all round, exhaust fumes seemed better as well! Later in the evening it took a couple of attempts to start which is unusual but after starting run ok. Today took a couple of turns to start but pedal responded ok once started. Once or twice seemed just a little bit more hesitant than usual to turn over, anything else easily checked without being able to plug it in?

Both my 110s and my Dad's Disco used do this.

When starting it, for the first 10-15 seconds or so, it doesn't respond to the accelerator at all, then all of a sudden it would jump into life and my 110 would spin the wheels if was on grass and had the acclerator pressed to the floor it used be such a sudden change.

After rebuilding the engine, it doesn't seem to do it at all but not sure what MAF I fitted when putting it back together as had a couple of them lying around
