Hi there,, i have done lots of research on this but am out of ideas!

I have a 300tdi 1996 160k coughing out plenty of white smoke when its cold,, this only happens when i go steady out my close and within a couple minutes clears itself prettty quickly this doesnt seem to happen on idle on startup you need to apply acceleration also feels a little lumpy.

The things i have checked:
I had my injectors tested and they were poo so replaced them the weekend just gone,,

I have checked air intake pipes also the old girl isnt using any water i also am 95% sure theres no water in the fuel i have also done the egr mod (plate) i have put injectors cleaner into the a brand new fuel filter and in the tank before i changed my injectors!

I have cleaned the super clean sediment bowl when i did a full service on it??

Anymore ideas would be must appreciated

Im thinking maybe a should check the timing and maybe replace the fuel pump??

Forgot to mention also when i tow my other 300tdi disco its like towing with a micra?? But day to day use the power loss isnt noticeable

But if i had air getting into my fuel lines / system surly it would be a bitch to start after being sat up for days at a time?

Have you changed fuel filter ?? Maybe rings worn etc ! Do a compression test !!

I have only owned the truck a few months and didn't do it at first so I can't see that the timing is out!

Compression test is a good idea cheers mate will take a gender at getting that done next! Yes fitted a new fuel filter and cleaned the sediment bowl

It's not really to much of a issue day to day just annoying because I know something ain't quite right?!

I owned mine for a couple of years with no issues until one day it started chuffing out white smoke on start up and felt like it was running on 3 cylinders until it warmed up. After a lot of messing around with injectors, filters, fuel sender and fuel line turns out it was the fuel pump timing. How it was out....I don't know:confused: Worth a look perhaps?

Ok thanks buddy, due a belt change so hopefully will cure the problem.

I had the same white smoke on my 90 in the morning, so got the head overhauled - valve stem seals were shot (causing the white smoke in the mornings) so had new Valves and stem seals in! At the same time had the injector pump recon'd + 4 new injector tips... Massive difference, sounds like a new engine and defo has more power than before! Worth a look?!
