Follow the great oracle, Buster's method to drain oil and replace two plugs.

Then get a lenght of hose (about as long as ya Landy is wide) and push a funnel into one end.

Then open the bonnet and thred the other end of the hose through the engine bay starting on the drivers side and ending up with the end in the filler hole.

Then stick a tin or piece of board under the filler hole (anything that will make a noise when the ATF starts to drip from the filler hole).

Then slowly pour the ATF into the funnel while standing up, no laying under trying to squirt oil into little holes or pumping furiously, easy peasy.

When the gearbox is full, slide under your landy and fold the end of the hose, you can then drain the ATF remaining in your hose back into the container from wence it came.

Replace the filler plug - job done.
 
I've got one of those:)

Very handy but a little slow to fill, I put the ATF in a measuring jug first and stick it in the microwave to warm it up.

Maybe completely cocks the oil up but it does go in quick, sure someone will tell me you cant do that:rolleyes:

Now I draw the line at microwaving my oil, Landy outside, food inside thats it!!!!!

BTW leaving the container in the sun for a while seems to help!!!
 
I stand the can of oil in hot water for a while ...
 
I only try to do stuff like this in the summer,

last january i had to replace a diff in -25 degrees in an unheated garage, the diff went in ok it was just trying to get the one shot in the swivels and the EP in the diff housing that was the problem, every time i heated it up in the house by the time i got it out to the landy the bloody stuff was damn near solid again.
 
Good idea but you must allow for the oil in the tube as it will run out after the diff is full. The idea of using a measuring jug is good.
 
Yeah, I've got one of those syringe thingeys. If the oils too thick it forces it's way past the washer and you get 50% squirt back on your arm, and if it's too thin it just leaks past the washer and........ :(

You just need to fold the end of the hose over when full and then allow it to drain back into your oil container - simples!!!

Warm in bucket of hot water
Pump up once
Place nozzle in filler hole
Lock the handle in the on position
Make cup of tea
Check when bottle is empty level is correct
remove nozzle
Insert filler plug

Go to pub
 
I remove the gearbox tunnel to do it. It's not like you have to swap the gearbox oil every week, so I like doing it like that, as I can take the opportunity to pressure wash the top of it too :)

Steady, new girly landy owner, no where near brave enought for tunnel removal yet!!!! Eating my elephant in bite sized pieces.:cool:
 
This is what I used. Just put some clear pipe on the pump and away you go. You can buy the pump for £3 than i used a car shampoo container.

Yup! I wasn't suggesting i came up with it, it is widely accepted as the "Buster Method" just mearly stating its the method i used.

Mine cost me £2 from a car boot.
