my old landy had a dent in the rear drivers side panel when I bought it. Right below the filler cap, you could see the back of the wheel. I banged it out made it look presentable and waited for some future opportunity to fix it, that was three years ago. Now a young girl has reversed into it and redone all the damage and a bit more. Her mum has offered to pay out side of the insurance and on receivng the body shop quote of 230.00 she offered me the cash straight up front. But I said no pay the body shop when the work is done which will be next week.
Today out of the blue a bloke called to say he was breaking one with a straight rear tub series 3 and I could have the tub for fourty quid.
Do I take this ladies money and make 190.00 on the side with all the hassle of changing the tub or not? But it feels a bit dishonest :(
What do you guys reckon/

ask a garage what they would charge you for changing the tub. Then go with that figure, or, even, half it and go with it.

Is the girl who hit you hot? you could end up getting a new best friend here if it is really cheap... ... ;)

depends whether you want to feel smug coz you've ripped someone off and got a pocket full of cash to spend on yourself or whether you want to feel that you've treated this woman ( whose financial circumstances you don't know about) fairly.

which ever is strongest wins

oh, she was hot allright and young enough to be my daughter, my wife took all her details for the claim. Interesting point about what the garage would charge. The 230.00 charge as is is for what they reckon will be about three hours work , but thats body shop price garage may be cheaper.

Well 110 woman it was the latter, wanting to feel I have treated her fairly. Taken a day off work to avoid hire car costs. If Iwas to attempt to fit it myself the 190.00 would cover further time off work.

one way to feel ok about it all is to be up front with the woman- if she's aware of it all she wont feel you're ripping her off and you won't feel dishonest

£190 / £230, you're married, got a wife, nothing to gain from keeping the girl happy - it's already cost you £190... Take the £230 and get a new tub.

Oh Hell I am going to go with the body shop because if she pays them she will know its a straight deal and wont feel ripped off, or feel there has been the potential to be ripped. And if she gets a bill from a different garage for what looks like unrelated work what is she going to think?
