I had a TD4 2003 Freelander Kalahari for 18 trouble free months until I drove it almost 250 miles on 80% petrol. So I then decided to get rid of it despite it still driving well. It was a nice motor and served me well but I never got to drive it in more than an inch of snow.

I now have a Disco ES 300 TDi and it is a fantastic motor to own, despite a few teething troubles when I first got it. It will need some welding next MOT but I can do that no problem. I have just spent £400 on new tyres that did make me cough a bit, but I intend keeping it for a few years so those tyres will be money well spent and parts are so cheap for servicing etc.

My wife hated it and thought I was bonkers selling a 5 year old Mondeo and buying a Disco almost 14 years old, but it has grown on her in the last 4 months and she has enjoyed our trips out in the recent snow where normally we have to stay home due to our rural location.

My advice would be go for the Disco

I'm sold! I was going to get a 300 tdi but after lots of reading and researching last night I've decided I want a black td5!
